To echo the general sentiment out there, Des Moines has the 4 best courses in one area in the nation. Kansas City is very close, though. If we just take 3 courses, I think it is a tie.

I am still amazed that my play this weekend did not ever get me onto the second card. While I left plenty of stuff out there I played some solid golf. The studs came ready to play this weekend and it took a hell of a score to move up. Somebody noted on the pdga website that out of 72 holes of golf played by the top 16 players only 5 were less than 1000 rated rounds( and I think my last round at 999 was one of the 5). This is compared to 17 at the Wide Open and like 15 or so at most other NT's. That is ridiculous. Usually people have at least one mediocre round out of 4.

Regarding hole 5 at Ewing, I disagree that it is a bad hole. That hole rocks. It is a relatively easy 4 for a pro if he tries to play safe. If, however, you go for a three, it means putting the bushes in play and a 5 is easy to get. I think the spread of scores on that hole is just about right.

If I had a chain saw and 30 minutes, I could make Walnut Ridge completely fair. As it is it is still a fabulous course.

Well my wad is blown. I will see everyone at the Glass Blown.
Next task - McCoy shakedown.
