Stud Paulson is looking pretty fierce, huh? He played Pitt so we'll see what it looks like after that.b wrote:Good job getting the info out for everyone. Now for all the questions. Will the K ratings be THE number, or are they negotiable? When do they get locked in? While most will not change in the next month or so, a player with only 2 rounds could change considerably with 1 or 2 more events played.
After a quick scan through the list, I only see a few mis-rated players. Old Man Paulsen's k rating is over 20 more than PDGA. The lower is probably most accurate. JD is playing at least 20 better than his, but that's 8 months of improvement.
I see several with only 2 rounds, probably their home course, that look too high for their actual playing level.
Looks like lots of good match ups possible. Should we wait till closer to tournament to submit teams for approval?
thanks for all the work. Buddy
Local round ratings tended to be higher than PDGA ratings. I don't know why exactly. The formula for figuring round ratings is the same (I believe) but figuring a PDGA player rating is more involved than for a K-rating. PDGA drops bad rounds after a certain number of rounds is reached and emphasizes the most recent rounds. At any rate, I adjusted the averaged KDGA rounds down a bit to get it more in line with PDGA. They are still slightly higher on the whole, but I think I found a pretty good balance. Example: There are 30 players with 6+ rounds who have a K-rating at least 10 points off of their PDGA rating--12 lower, 18 higher. Coach puffs up quite a bit at the local tourneys, his K-rating is 38 points higher!
For 1880 Dubs, K-rating is what we are going to use. I'm thinking 6 rounds is enough to get a picture of how folks are playing. Anything less than that and there should be some wiggle room. Seem fair? After the Frontier, anyone with 6 rounds or more should be set. Players with fewer rounds could be changing through the Country Club in Salina.
Nothing is perfect but this is the fairest method I can see.
