Good thing you're not waiting for the the Frontier Open:

" State & National Representative positions are guaranteed
through August 31, 2009. Coordinators may have this deadline extended if relying on a state series
or single event that concludes after August 31. The full entry fee must be paid by August 31, 2009.
Players seeking these spots should contact their State or National Coordinator for more information. "

I was trying to make this whole topic a mute point last weekend in Fort Morgan and missed it by one stroke. I hope kevin wins des moines and gives us a fighting chance.

Sweet! That makes my job easier crunching the numbers. Opens the door up for someone to get the spot and enjoy the biggest tourney on the planet.

Leo 986.75
RB 1001
Bobby V 984
Dick Parker 961(6 rounds)
Chad Larson 975 (6 rounds)
Nate 986 (5 rounds)
Mark Martin 1002
Swede 977 (6 rounds)
Jake 980
Smitty 1002 (6 rounds)
Crispin 987 (6 rounds)

Remember this is an average of you 8 highest rated Kansas KDGA rounds. There should be a ratings update this week and I will be able to crunch some more numbers.

So here is the deal:

I did not play up to my expectations in Des Moines. I have historically done well there every year but for some reason I choked this year. After starting out well (2 strokes off the lead), I choked it at Pickard and dropped like a stone. I floundered for the next couple of rounds. I knew going in to the final round that a USDGC spot was on the line. I was intent on turning things around. Beginning that round I was the number 4 qualifier spot with one guy a stroke a head of me and 4 people a stroke or two behind me. I knew all the golfers and knew that the odds favored at least two of them shooting even or below the final round.

To cut the story short, I played well but not hot the final round. I was one over par going in to the last hole - a straight 350 ft. shot with danger close on the right, plenty of room on the left, sloping green by the hole making long putts a bit tricky. (Hemmi hole). Despite knowing I had to be aggressive to get the bird, my brain bailed and I left it short and left 50- 60 feet. I figured a score of even would be difficult for people to match and I really, really, really, wanted to nail the putt. And guess what. . . . I busted it.

Usually a 54 at Walnut Ridge is a hell of a round. That day it was only a good round and a person behind me shot under to tie me. Fortunately, no one else shot as well and I got the spot. If I had missed that putt, I would have not qualified.

I never write this much. The reason I tell this is because this year I felt I had more pressure that last round than I can remember because I really, really, really, wanted a different Kansan to be able to go to the USDGC in the state rep spot. I didn't need the qualifier to go to the USDGC. I had the state rep spot sealed up. Someone else from Kansas should be going in that spot and I wanted to make it happen.

I cannot stress enough how fabulous an event the USDGC is. The more good Kansas golfers we can get up there, the more good Kansas golfers will see disc golf at its best. So... .. someone owes me a beer. I'll take a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. ( you could also get one for Hemmi for kicking my ass and nailing his spot down)

I have not added in the latest 3 events. Wichita, Manhattan, and Topeka.

My spreadsheet is on Stacys computer and she is always at work.

I will try to get it updated today.

DD Open and the Revenge of the Monkey will be the last 2 events. They are both in August.

That will give people 4 more chances to score some hot rounds.
