Can we have a double tournament?

Post by Ruder »

Would love to play in a doubles tournament this year, one like Emporia had a few years ago, but I think it would best be run in Salina, Wichita, or Emporia or something. Thoughts?
I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.

All you need to do is find a host course and a TD.

derby has tee pads...newton is always fun... with some backing by DD, Smitty would make a great TD...or Unruh along with some help from the club could also put together a great event at either of the mentioned courses...just my immediate thought

I guess just trying to find out if there is any interest in it first off.

Here are a few ideas off the top of my head.

2 rounds of 18

Round 1 (1-9 best disc each person plays the hole and take the best score) (10-18 alt shot)
Round 2 (1-9 best shot with double birdie in effect) (10-18 first three alt, middle three best shot, last 3 tough shot)

Divisions:
Pro - Pays cash
Advanced Am - Pays plastic
Am - Pays plastic
Mixed (Must have women or jr partner)
Over 90 Pays cash (the combined age of players is over 90)

Just some ideas.

I would be willing to run it at Derby unless we have someone who really wants to run it.

*Thomas will have all 18 huge triangular runways installed soon. Six are in, six have the forms set, & six more will soon follow.
*Salina has one local mildly experienced TD that loves organizing these things.
*Salina is centrally located.
*Thomas sets up perfect for doubles play. Arguably the best doubles course in KS.
*It's location is particularly convenient for me.

Plus Newton has 24 holes and no tourney there during the year. When it is mowed it is one of my favorite courses.

Kindy is working on a date for the Kansas Teams Championships. That event will go down in Newton and will take us 2 days to finish. More details on that after he gets me the date.

Not positive who might want me as a patna but the following names are candidates: The Nutter Putters, Cunning Stunts, Too old for this spit.

If you are mixing up doubles formats, I think switch doubles is better than any of the others. Especially if it is a divisional doubles. Then you don't have one partner that is much weaker than the other. It's only slightly tougher than best score, and much easier than worst shot. Unlike other doubles formats, it involves more strategy and knowing your partners game.
