Are you planning on plyaing the regular 18 holes, or doing the holes down by the river? I vote for the alt course.

FWIW, the tall grass rough that the city has been trying to grow has been stunted considerably by the ongoing drought, so if we want to do an alternate course this would be the year to do it. I wouldn't mind a reverse layout using the existing baskets, but that's a lot of trouble.
The dry weather has thusfar also kept the annual sandburr crop in check. Unfortunately, the puncturevine (goat heads) have pretty much taken their place. Check your shoes periodically if you're coming up to get a round.

What are the wheat chaff looking things that get in your sock? Puncturevine? I though those were the sand burrs. Then what are sand burrs, stickers?

Played a couple of rounds monday with Scott. The only issues were the goat heads sticking to the bottom of your shoes. Not really an ISSUE just annoying.

Cheat Grass - More of a spring annoyance at Carey. All gone now.
Sand Burr (and an interesting solution for getting rid of them).
Puncturevine - plant appearance on ground noted by yellow flower.
Goat head thorns that come from the puncturevine plant.
Just was down at the course today. They didn't stick to my shoes as much. The big rain the other night may have helped.

Thanks Scott, you are a regular wikipedia of knowledge. So Puncturevine, goat heads, sand burrs= stickers. The cheat grass usually hits Herman Hill and Oak Park really bad once the spring rains stop. This year has been too dry even for the cheat grass. Oak Park got so dry all the grass died and dried up and actually washed away in the big rain the other night. There was nothing but dirt and mud on the course. But now some new grass is growing back in, so it looks like a second spring. But the trees have lost enough leaves to look like late October minus the pretty colors. And of course the heat resembles neither season.
