The format will be the same as the last few years, the Buddy match play format. I will also post that.

Many of the champions are settled, it is just a formality from the point on. Ron is going to win in a land slide as the Open Champion and will be taking the trophy back to Oklahoma. Jared put some miles on the car and destroyed the rest of the old guys. Buddy could maybe pull out the victory if he played lights out at Round-Up and Dennis missed it. JD is going to be the Advanced Champion this year and will be a force to wrecking with in Open next year. Don Z will be taunting Lloyd with his winners trophy all year long. Might look good hanging from the mirror of the Cruiser. Coach has a chance at BoeBo. BoeBo will be watching the Swedes play on Saturday and coach would only need to beat 12 players to take the a share of the title. Disc Golf Mom came out of retirement in Newton and might have the Disc Golf Itch again. That could be trouble for Mel who looked to have it locked down. The 2 of them are only separated by 5 points.

Looks like the most change could come about with Kent, Mace, and anyone else looking for a chance at the Frizz-Rocker Clause. Kent is in the finals by the skin of his teeth, but has played a ton of events. Mace is on the outside looking in but is sitting as the current Frizz-Rocker front runner. If Kent would slip out of the top 1/3, he is in as Frizz-Rocker and Mace is out. If Mace sneaks in using the Last Chance Qualifier, and Kent stays in the top 1/3 it looks to me like maybe Bo and Tom Thompson may get in as Frizz-Rockers.

Lots of people still have a shot at the finals using the Last Chance Qualifier. Get to Wichita! Play some good golf! Have a shot at the finals! Enjoy the banquet! Come hang out at the Finals.

Kevin Rorabaugh should be in too. If I didn't list him on the points page, that was a mistake.

Format:
Players will be randomly seeded before the start of the first round. This neglects any intentional pairings or hole assignments. Groups with 6 or fewer people will play on one card each round. Groups with 7 – 10 players will play on 2 cards, and 3 cards for up to 14 players. All matches will be predetermined by seed number on the scorecard. Play is a shotgun start for everyone, each 6 holes is a 1 vs. 1 match play. After each 6 holes a new match will begin. Playing this fashion will allow 3 matches to take place over 18 holes. Everyone will play 6 matches during the day.

Points are a scored in the following manner:
1 point for winning a match.
1 / 2 point for splitting a match.

Total points won determines the final standings.

In the event of a tie:
Head to Head is the first tie breaker.
Total Holes won for the day is the 2nd tie breaker.
Total birdies is the 3rd tie breaker.

Groups of 3-4 players.

Round 1:
Match 1----------Match 2----------------Match 3
1 vs 2------------1 vs 3-----------------1 vs 4(x)
3 vs 4(x)---------2 vs 4(x)---------------2 vs 3

Round 2 would be an exact repeat of round 1.

Groups of 5 or 6 players all on 1 card.

Round 1
Match 1--------------------Match 2--------------------Match 3
1 vs 2---------------------1 vs 5 -----------------------1 vs 3
3 vs 4---------------------- 2 vs 3--------------------- 2 vs 6 (x)
5 vs 6 (x)----------------- 4 vs 6 (x)------------------4 vs 5

Round 2
Match 1------------------------Match 2-------------Match 3
1 vs 6(x)-----------------------1 vs 4---------------1 vs 2
2 vs 4 -------------------------2 vs 5----------------3 vs 4
3 vs 5 -------------------------3 vs 6 (x)------------5 vs 6 (x)

After 5 matches (30 holes) total all points won and seed 1 -6 using all tie breakers if needed. Play the final 6 holes using the new pairings. Total final points for final standings.

Groups of 7 – 8

2 cards using random seeding.

Card 1
Match 1--------------Match 2------------Match 3
1 vs 2---------------1 vs 3---------------1 vs 4
3 vs 4---------------2 vs 4----------------2 vs 3

Card 2
Match 1-------------Match 2---------------Match 3
5 vs 6---------------5 vs 7-----------------5 vs 8(x)
7 vs 8(x)------------6 vs 8(x)--------------6 vs 7

Total all points won after round 1 using tie breakers if needed. Top 2 players from each form card 1 Bottom 1 or 2 players on each card form card 2. Reseed by pts won and repeat final parings.

Total all points won for the final standings.

9 – 10 players 2 cards random seeding
Card 1
Match 1--------------Match 2-------------Match 3
1 vs 2---------------1 vs 3---------------1 vs 4
3 vs 4----------------2 vs 4---------------2 vs 3

Card 2
Match 1------------Match 2-------------Match 3
5 vs 6---------------5 vs 7--------------5 vs 8
7 vs 8---------------6 vs 9--------------7 vs 9
9 vs 10(x)----------8 vs 10 (x)--------6 vs 10 (x)

I think I have the finals figured out so that their will be no repeat matches. Some matches will be as few as 5 holes others as many as 9.

The only thing I don't have figured out is groups larger then 10 people. There may be some repeat matches in a group that large.

Make sure you are there by 9:30?to check in. 9:31 you are likely to be a spectator.

See you on Saturday.

Duct tape your head shut while reading about the format. That must be what all my 1880 ramblings look like to the rest of you! Stay safe, Smitty.

Extra hour of sleep Sunday so I'd expect the iron fist on check in time.

What a change from Yesterday! Shorts and T-shirts after lunch and the lack of wind made for a very enjoyable day of golf. A few changes to the format allowed each person to play all the other players in their division. It made for a ton of holes, but I felt like it was well worth it.

Thanks to Kindy for getting their early and checking people in, moving up to the Advanced final, and running the Advanced final.

Thanks to Chris Tyler for helping fill out cards and running the Am2 portion of the finals.

Thanks to Buddy for coming up with the format, helping with reg, and running the AmMaster/Grandmaster portion of the finals.

And a HUGE thanks to Mace! Running the Masters portion, doing payout, organizing plastic, and making a Pizza Run.

I really think the format is here to stay. I like the fact that we are able to reward people for good play during the year and then give all the qualifiers a little something after the finals.

Ron 5 1/2
Smitty 5

Thoughts and comments please.

This year we were able to play all members of our group. In the future, if we end up with more then 10 in a group this will not be as doable. With 10 people we were able to play 9 X 5 hole matches. It was fun and did take all day. We only took a short pizza break (which could become a normal part of the finals in my book)

We could have adjusted the number of holes and played 9 X 4 hole matches, but I didn't think 4 holes would be enough.

We did combine some groups to make for a bigger group, then separated the group to figure payout. I think this was a good way to get more golf and have a chance at playing different people.

If we had tie, we just looked at head to head. If we were not able to break it, we left it as a tie. If it was 2 people tied, it worked great. If 3 or more were tied and so and so beat one but not the other, then it just stayed a tie.

What a great weekend of disc golf (could do without the wind on Saturday)! I want to thank the ACDGC and Dynamic Discs for another top notch tournament to end the season. Then there is nothing but positive things to say about the KDGA finals. This was my first year as a KDGA member and you can count me in as a lifetime member as long as I can still throw a disc. Or I might still become a member and just ride around on my cart with a motor attached and watch the rest of you play...lol. Everyone that works so hard to make the KDGA a successfull organization I give you my thanks and appreciation. I know how hard you all work. I loved the format that we played even though it took all day and I'm still half awake as I type this. Great BBQ Saturday night and a good time hanging out and thanks for providing lunch the day of the event (Thanks to Mace who I believe made the pizza run?). My last thanks goes out to Jason for his hospitality in allowing me to spend one less night in the Wal Mart parking lot. Bill also offered his hospitality as well which is cool as well as a couple of others throughout the season. ALL YOU GUYS ROCK and make this sport so much more enjoyable in my few short years of playing. If you are not a member then you would be a fool not to join and show your support to these fine people and the sport of disc golf. Even though Pittsburg is almost out of the state here in the S.E.K., I will do my part to get more people to join the KDGA from our area. With that said, keep up the great work and I can't wait for what next year brings and new people to meet. PEACE OUT!!!
