Ouch... Those ratings are really low.
I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.

My thoughts too. Do you think they aren't accurate? I've never played Ellis and a I only know a couple folks on the list well enough to know if those are below average.

There is nothing subjective about the way ratings are done but maybe there is some factor I don't know about that skewed the numbers?

seems like Kevin added a couple holes last year. if they played 20 or 21 that would really scew the numbers

There were only 18 holes. There were 4 super legitimate par 4's. People were taking 7's and 8's on multiple holes. I'm not sure I can pretend I shot a 1000 rated first round but that was solid 985 golf. I was thinking I was going to shoot 985 and a 965

Well I tinkered with the numbers a bit but I can't make them any bigger. I've been using the player ratings of folks with 7 or more rounds as "seeds" to generate the round ratings. There weren't many players at Ellis with that many rounds. I thought maybe it was the small sample size that wacked the ratings.

So I tried using everyone with a rating as "seeds." The ratings were within 1 point. I then tried just using Buddy and Ruder as seeds (the two with the most rounds and so the most accurate ratings) and all the ratings dropped more than 10 points.

Looks like several players played well above their average and several played well below. In other words, I can't find anything wrong.

The PDGA events tend to have a lot more propagators, which makes the ratings better reflect the true skill of the round played. If the few that were in were lower rated and shot well, this can make a big impact. And a lot of times it is the lower rated players with just a few rounds and since they are improving, such a scenario isn't that unlikely.
