Yesterday (5/5/2012) was the disc golf course work day at Manhattan's Tuttle Creek State Park River Pond course. Many needed improvements & maintenance issues were addressed by DFOK members. [ http://www.discgolfscene.com/clubs/Disc ... _of_Kansas ]
The issues addressed during yesterday's work day were as follows:
1. The addition and/or restoring of many alternate pin placements.
- A. New (or long lost) pin placements were set in new concrete.
- B. Some existing pin placements were re-set in new concrete.
- C. Cleaning out the existing "muck" in many pin placements.
- D. Repainting the bases in bright colors in hopes of them not being damaged (when not in use).
2. The installation of wood chips / mulch around the baskets & tee boxes.
3. The much needed total renovation of basket #3.
- A. Replaced old chains with new properly sized chains.
- B. Cut the center pipe so the basket sets at the proper height.
- C. Straightened the center pipe with a sledge hammer.
- D. Converted from yellow to black color.
4. Repainted all the baskets with a new coat of black paint.
5. Repairs & improvements to all of the existing baskets.
- A. Closed the infamous gaps in the baskets by welding in additional bars.
- B. Removed the wobble in the chain racks & baskets by welding them to then center pipe.
- C. Either cut down in height, or added a "bead" on the center pipe, to prevent them from setting too high or low.
Many area disc golfers pitched in at yesterday's work day. The work started at approx. 8:30a & lasted until approx. 4:00p. Thanks to all the hard work by the DFOK members listed below, the Tuttle Creek River Pond Course is now in great condition. Well done everyone!

Internet high five to every one of you volunteers! Sounds like you accomplished a ton. I'm feeling a little guilty now for playing all weekend. A handful of awesome frolfers were out trying to tame Thomas park today when we showed up. Good on you.
Throw Millennium.

Whoa! Can't wait to see the improved buckets!
Re: Tuttle Creek Work Day = Great Success!
Tyler,
Hopefully some of you out of town players will notice a difference, however some might not because they are still obviously locally made baskets... and the black color reminds people who might not have otherwise looked at them very closely.
One thing is for sure though, your discs (thus your score) will notice the difference. There's no more wobbly bounce out action because they're now rock solid. No more big gaps where soft putters could slip through. No more iron curtain like oversized chains on a few random baskets.
So, at the very least we've improved things... even though some players may not notice.
See you soon.
