changes on Emporia courses

I've been playing the Pan quite a bit lately, but made it out to Jones this morning. Few changes out there over the last couple months. With all the work going on, I though I'd inquire here as to whether anyone has an idea of what all is going on out there...

The West course had teepads 1-4 and 9 (only played 9 this AM, not sure about the back 9) extended, just a bit. Looks like concrete with a "brick template" pressed into it. Very nice idea. Does anyone know if more teepad extensions are planned?

While I'm asking, does anyone know if there are any changes in store for holes one (short position) and ten? The tree that protected the hyzer off of hole one (when long) and created the mando on hole ten is cut down.

I noticed some of the alternate pin marker poles are either painted up or replaced. Didn't look too closely, but either way they look nice.

Quite a bit of grass has been planted and I'd noticed a month ago, someone had power-raked a decent sized section. The north pond is looking much better after the dirt work and brush removal. In fact, all three of the ponds are looking very nice (water levels aside).

As a side, I've also noticed a whole bunch of brush cleanup went on at the Pan. And that was before the dead trees were marked for removal.

Hole ten on the west/lower/gray course was lengthened today. Pretty certain that completes all 18 pads. Concrete was poured in at least one other spot in the park today, along with tilling of some compacted areas and additional grass seed planted.

The course is looking nice, in my opinion. Especially, I appreciate the work done at the north pond (brush removal and dirt work). I also noticed the tree line on the northeast end has been signifigantly thinned, which will make hunting my discs much easier this summer!

Still curious what changes are in store for hole ten on the west course. Would be very surprised to see it left as a straight, 250ft shot. At least knowing the work completion on the pad tells me the hole will still be thrown in the same direction.

Oh yeah, noticed the sign for hole two on the east course was replaced today. Almost forgot about that. It looked like it had been knocked over and sheared off (maybe by a mowing deck?) last year.

Can't wait for spring disc golf!

I know a sidewalk was poured on the north end at the Pan last week. A lot of dead trees, graffiti removal, and brush removal has been done. If anyone can think of upgrades in that park, please point them out. Fantastic to see the effort the city is going to.

Looked like Peter Pan might be having alternate tee pads installed on holes 2 and 5. Both shifted in a north direction to take better advantage of trees. 2 had a pad outline drawn in that would make a ceiling shot out of six trees and 5 had an outline that would favor a bit of anhyzer.

Total speculation on my part, based on spray paint outlines on the ground which I saw this morning.

You have speculated correctly and wrong at the same time.

Peter Pan will be getting 18 tourney quality pads. Holes 2 and 5 will be moved slightly. 2 Because the pines on the right are now gone, and 5 because it makes a better hole out of it.

The other paint is to mark Tee signs and an info board.

Do you happen to know if they are pulling the old tee pads out? Thanks for sharing the knowledge.

I think you are right about the old pads being removed at the Pan....based on what happened at hole 10,Jones, on the west side. The tee pad has been relocated about 35 feet or so to the east and rotated slightly to the eastern direction (or right as you face the pin). I'm very curious to know if this new hole will have a mando.

There is now a tree in play. The tree sits in front of the tee pad 15 yards or so (give or take) and offset to the right. If the tree were mandatory,it would force a hyzer in either pin location.

My buddy called and pointed this out to me. He's probably snickering as I think this hole was relocated on the same day I had posted about it having been lengthened. I think maybe I had played the new pad location without realizing it had been moved! It's a very similar shot, the only caveat being there is now a possible mando.

Hoping to get a round in at the Pan tomorrow.

I am really appreciative of the short and long pins at Jones on the west side. Wish I knew who to thank for that! Hopefully, they'll be there all summer.

Also, the east course beginning and ending at the east side parking lot is a big change. Very smart thinking. The new signs are also nice.

Does anyone know if the mandatory is still in effect on the west course, hole 10 when the pin is on the right (west) setting? The sign (which is the same as the old pad location's) indicates yes. I am assuming the mandatory still holds and was a primary motivator behind pad relocation.

Pretty sure the mando stays in play just a different tree. the new pins are to prepare for worlds. i didnt hear what is going to happen to the old ones but they will likely not be there all summer.

noticed that all the pads save three have been removed at Peter Pan last week. it seems a few are being moved and I am assuming all are being lengthened.

if they put in new signs, it is really going to irritate me to see "Sur13", or whatever, spray painted on them. I suppose if kids are willing to spray a Spanish War Memorial, signage will be fair game. I keep hoping to catch one in action, but they must do their painting late at night.

well, new pads are in! a few were still soft early this evening and couldn't be used. all of them looked to be poured and ready. holes having pad location changed (2 & 5) still had the old pad present.

there was a city employee monitoring wet tees from his truck (he was still there when I left at 8:30pm). it's fantastic to see the effort put into improving the facilities!

Peter Pan Park is getting a makeover!

Played a round @ the Pan last night and noticed several changes are in store. Many basket location changes and more pad relocations are marked out. Some very creative and beneficial efforts! I noticed a couple nods to the vintage layout too! The improvements at Jones Park have been fantastic and now we are seeing similar upgrades to Pan (one of the coolest parks I know of).

noticed today the #9 pad at Jones west was backed up ~20 ft. I like it as it takes advantage of the "tunnel" created by the trees and offers a better shot at the alternate pin position.

also, the #3 pad on east is currently missing. re poured because it was one of the "slick"pads? I've always thought a few of them on the east side weren't broomed out for tread as much as the others. maybe it's being moved too?

I am all pumped up for these improvements that seem to be constantly going in. I really hope to follow around some of the greats again during the Glass Blown, they made east look like a pitch and putt last year!!
