This is scheduled as a double elimination match play event. Frontier Park. Likely a 9 hole course.
You must qualify to play in this event. (I'll explain qualification in the next post.)
There is NO entry fee.
In the past few years, everyone who has played in this event has cashed! I think it averaged $50 per head last year.
Everyone plays in their KDGA division, as listed on the points thread. If anyone wants to "move up" they need to contact me right away. This will change the qualifications.
Due to inactivity the KDGA forums have been locked. All past threads are still available. Please join us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/kansasdiscgolf!

Ok, I'll try to clarify the qualification process for the finals.
There is an order that is applied.
#1 Tournament Qualifiers.
Dynamic Discs Open & the final double points event in ELLIS are the last 2 events of the season. Current KDGA points will be posted prior to each of these events. The then current top third players will be posted in red on the points thread. The players who are not in the top third at that time (BEFORE the event) will be eligible for an automatic bid through the tournament. The lowest score from each division (from those not in the top third before the event) will get an automatic bid for the finals that cannot be lost. NOTE: It is possible for those listed in the top third to fall out of the top third.
#2 Top Third Qualifiers.
After the final regular season event in Ellis, the top third in each division will be calculated. Rounding up or down as needed. Example: 20 in a division gets 7 in the top third. 19 gets 6.
#3 Divisional Qualifiers.
Each region's top points finisher for pro (open & masters) & amateur (advanced, intermediate, junior, women) are qualified for the finals. The top pro & am finisher is determined for each region. If they haven't already qualified by #1 or #2 above, they become qualified.
#4 Frizz Rocker Clause.
The player who has played the most events and who has not qualified through #1, #2, or #3 above is qualified for the finals.

54 players qualified for the Finals this year, of which 42 showed up in Hays to play. Payouts were $50 average per player and $25 minimum.
We played an interesting format this year that you will probably not see anywhere else. It was match play where everyone got to play 6 matches and 35 or 36 holes.
Advantages were you got to play with more people and against more people. There were not big waits for matches as with elimination style match play. Everyone got to play 2 full rounds, yet we didn't have to finish in the dark for the final matches as we did with double elimination. I also thought keeping track of birdies for tiebreakers was fun.
Disadvantage was that it probably seemed pretty confusing. Smitty & Buddy did a great job making those cards and filling them out so they made sense. The 7-some that was am masters / women / jr probably had a tough time. We had to make a card for them from scratch. You guys and everyone did an excellent job of keeping your cards straight so we could tally the results.
The one thing that might have thrown the results off a little is that we forgot to mention that hole 8 was a par 4. Most of the players (hopefully everyone) who 3'd this hole recorded it as a birdie.

You are not the only one with that opinion.nastyNate wrote:just an opinion, but i think in the future the head to head should be first tie breaker. it sucks to get beat by someone i beat twice.
It was my thought that Buddy's idea of keeping track of birdies would add an interesting twist. However, if this was only the 2nd tiebreaker, then for a great majority of the players the birdies would never matter. Buddy also thought head to head should be the first though.
