Buhler putting in a course?

My brother lives in Buhler and said he thought he heard they were putting in a course. Anyone else heard that?

I went looking for more information and received this confirmation email this morning:

The Buhler Recreation has received a grant that will cover the beginning stages to the course at the Wheatland Park here in Buhler. We are planning on a 9 hole course that will probably progress in stages. The grant money will pay for the baskets for the course. Future stages will be concrete and signs to indicate hole length and the par for the hole etc.

Design is the most important aspect of any course. Safety for nondisc golfers and disc golfers should be the first consideration. Fun of play for the skill level of user should be the second. Being able to expand and make holes harder and different in the future should be third.

I would suggest Scott Capenter, Scarpfish on here would be a local that would take all these things into consideration.

Scarpfish isn't available, but while working at Colwich on the course with discout, Bill and Buddy said they'd be willing to help. Bill has already had a chance to take a peak at the park. The course will hopefully be in by next summer.

You cannot go wrong with either of those two. Make sure they are involved and you will have a solid course.

It is going into a park that has a lot of activity. The north end is fairly open but putting 9 holes in could make it a chip and putt unless they are willing to crowd a couple of areas or do a bunch of walking between some holes.

Sounds like the money they have is around $500 so they are looking at some alternatives to baskets. Nothing set in stone either way. Still just exploring options.

Just got back from Buhler. Course is installed. Its a shorty (longest hole is about 300' and four of them are about 200' or shorter), and holes 8 & 9 are a little illogically designated at the moment, but there are concrete pads and they spent the money on good buckets. Reno County finally has a second course.

Here's a few pics. I'm sure once the foliage comes in next year (if it ever rains again) this should fill in a bit.

Dang...looks like they should have spent a little more money on concrete. Those pads look pretty short.

He took the pic standing at the basket back to the tee pad on that one...didn't someone say it was a shorty course...LOL.

I threw it Black Friday. The pads are only 6'. The earlier comment about 8 and 9 is true. I believe they simply marked tee 8 as 9 and tee 9 as 8. The flow is much better that way.

Correct. Notice how the tee pad though is slightly off kilter.

As short as these tee pads are, I'm surprised how how off kilter some of them are. When playing Hole 7 the first time, I actually threw at the wrong basket.



Really, considering that they invested in tee signs, they should have waited a year to pour tee pads so issues like this didn't arise. Now they have nine tripping hazards in the ground that are nearly impossible to move. McPherson has been in the ground without cement tees for years and has been just fine.

I noticed I got confused as to where I go when i play on 8 but i figured out after the first time that i throw around the trees. I like that hole. Anyone wanting to start a league for buhler?

That is a neat little hole, but as people have stated here, it's likely not what was intended in the design as it appears that 8 & 9's tee signs are mixed up. Going backwards off what is now shown as 9's teepad to play 8 and backwards off what is shown as 8's to play 9 makes a lot more sense in terms of flow.

As for starting a league in Buhler, I don't know if there would be much interest as its effectively a kiddie course, and we're only getting a handful of folks in Hutch right now. Granted, it is short daylight season.
