well after looking through alot of the forums i noticed one posting about a tourney ay blue vally course in KC. well it sounds like every one likes long courses . so i went back over my course map and found a couple holes i could make longer and with mando dog legs in them. how does an over all aditional 3000 feet aded on to the course sound . on hole almost 900 feet long? i will bring both copys along to the course on monday.

disclizard - heres a couple suggestions from me...
First I believe mando's are for courses with limited terrain without a lot of options (Mulvane).
Id say if you have the type of land that you do have, you should be able to step up to the teebox and be able to choose multiple shots. Not forced to throw around a certain tree. I for one would rather crush a big anny rather than throw a hyzer. Even if both options were there.
900 ft is nice and all, but if your taking an 18 hole course, and making everything 600+, and it ends up only being a 9 hole course. You need to re think your priorities.

Smooth Draw,
You have some good points, but take it easy on the Lizard King here.
Lizard,
I think it's great what you are trying to do for your community. I also appreciate you taking one of my posts to heart in opening possibilities for a more challenging course. Disc golf should incorporate more strategy with tougher courses if they are well designed.
I would like to reinforce some things that smooth draw just said. Players hardly ever appreciate mandatories, even when they improve a hole. Usually, they are only used for safety reasons. That is usually the case in parks with limited space and / or high traffic in certain areas. I personally don't have a problem with mandatories, but most players' arguments against them incorporate the fact that usually a course can be designed where players are naturally motivated to play a certain shot.
With that in mind for some holes.... I think having several options off the tee is always fun. The thing is that if you have an easy hyzer route on a reachable hole, the great players will pick it 9 times out of 10 as long as the wind isn't very unfavorable. This can ruin a good hole by reducing the number of legitimate shot selections to one. If there are hyzer holes (hyzer a definite preferred shot), I'd mix them up so there are just as many "flick" (or lefty hyzer) holes as there are hyzer holes.

Hopper ,
yes i agree with you about mandos . i hate being told that my best shot (hyzer) cant be used such as mulvines hole three. but like mulvine the mandos i have are for saftey resons . the park has pavilions scaterd through out so im have an idea of putting mandos up so that people dont thro through them but around them . which if the tee pad is far enough away from it on one of the hole we can use the pavilion as a turning point in the dog leg . buy saying you have to go around the right side it can make the hole longer and also more chalangeing haveing to lay up at around 300 ft. and then make your turn to the basket. ... smooth draw.. you said 900 ft is nice and all, but if your taking an 18 hole course, and making everything 600+, and it ends up only being a 9 hole course. You need to re think your priorities. im not makeing every hole over 600 in fact i still have 4 at 300 or less 5 at 300-400 but the rest ar over 400 with now 1 hole at arond 900 2 around 700 and so on . im trying to make every one happy and yet keep it enjoyable for kids and ams. i have 4 holes that throw over water ....But there are areas where the persons that cant throw long enough to make the shot can lay up safely. at leat 3 holes throw along the river putting water into play on any bad throw or windy days . yet the nervouse thrower can throw away from the water and still be inbounds. like the long one at hermon that throws along the river if you throw a bad hyzer your disc gets wet. but yet you can chose to throw it the hill towards the trees and battle with them instead of takeing the chance of loseing a disc.

You want a dinker course for the kiddos to play yet you have 5 holes 300-400, 2 holes at 700, and one at 900? Umm, I'm thinkin you've pretty much spoiled the fun for the boy scouts. If you want a short course, build a farkin short course and watch the community welcome the sport in with open arms. Better yet, make a dinker front nine and open things up on the back. That should make nearly everyone happy. (cept the showboatin big arms like smitty (/sarcasm) )
By the way, in my opinion the first priority should be to kill all the damn poison ivy. I've been to the dr twice and the ER once since playin league there 3 weeks ago. Still have the stuff in fact. I certainly won't be takin my boy there regardless of how amazing the course is.
That being said, if there's anything I can do to help just let me know.

Hey puttslut, the longer course is made by useing alternat tees and or pole hole placements. the regulare course is still there on the arial map just as it was . when i first designed the course i planed on expanding it in the future. but to made some of the people happy i decided we can just but in some of the alternats first and then make some of them shorter later and some longer later ..like i said nothing is ferm and or concrete. For every one here . this is comeing from reading the forums about the do dah, and other posting directed at tour dirctors and league founders and or presidents.. as for the poison ivey hell i havent even gotten permition from the city yet and now people are thinking this and that should be done to the park. lets get the course in and then if YOU want to volinteer to donate weed killler and come out and spray i would be more that happy to give you a hand. Not trying to be rude to any one but every thing I and other disc golf league founders and TD,s do is volinteer. we do it for the love of the game, the comeradory of fellow disc golfers. yet it seems like there always going to be some one with a problem with some thing. well I'll say this now . if you want to come to me with a problem great i would love to hear them, just dont expect me to jump up and run over to the park and take care of things right now. but if you come to me with a problem and also say "hey i also have a solution and want to help get this done" the results will come alot faster.
remember it all about fun.(MOST FUN WINS)
