well the idea I actually have is since I will have the latitude and longitude of the courses, allow users to input their zipcodes or full address and give them personalized directions to the course from their front door. This is extremely easy to do with Yahoo maps, I can also do traffice overlays and weather for a particular course from there. This will also keep the people inputting courses from having to create directions to a course.

I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised with what I got cooking. I will get the bulk of it done this weekend considering it is supposed to be cold ;)

I am working on several player submitted rankings including but not limited to

Tee Ranking
Pin Ranking
Fairway Ranking
Difficulty Ranking
Design Ranking
New Player Friendliness Ranking
Speed of Play Ranking
Natural Beauty Ranking

These will all give a Overall Ranking which will be an average of the above ranking from 0 to 5 stars

I am also going to work on a commenting system so that you can leave comments such as

"Had a great approach to Hole 3 going with a thumber over the top"

or

"Great Course"

Both of these will require that you leave your email and name so a. you cannot rank the same course twice and you can be contacted if something needs to be changed.

Keep throwing me ideas. I think this thing could be an AMAZINGLY helpful part of the site.

Better and better dude. If this goes down KDGA online will be the envy of disc golf sites everywhere. I don't know the capability of what you're working with on the site, but photo's and different angles, not unlike playdg.com, would be pimp.

I forgot to put it in the post but I will make it also so you can upload photos as well as naming and having descriptions for each photo. I am also looking at ways to build a printable scorecard creator for the course based on information people submit to it such as hole length and par for each hole.

Rating different elements would be a big bonus. I think it would be good to keep it in a seperate section from the concrete info / course stats that are not subject to opinion.

just wanted to let everyone know that I moved the testing server to

http://kdga.palespyder.com

you should be able to watch any progress I make there. The one course showing now is being pulled from a database so I now know it's possible to do pretty much everything I mentioned before. I will knock out a couple big chunks this weekend and then probably call for folks to start adding courses as beta testers.

Well it appears this has already been done for the KDGA site, so as not to reinvent the wheel, I am going to do this United States wide instead of just for Kansas. Thanks for the input guys.

The admin message on the new KDGA site might have been referring to your work in progress jlew. I'm sure your efforts are still welcome!

Yes, by all means, everyones efforts are welcome!

The main objective here is to list all the courses in Kansas and give information that is a bit more detailed and current than the available options (PDGA Directory). The detailed rankings, player comments, etc. would be a great enhancement and could be easily be accessible from the courses' main directory listing.

The new directory is not nearly complete. Many details are missing or outdated so we still need the help of the players to get everything done.

Keep up the good work and keep the ideas coming!

While I understand that, it is like reinventing the wheel for me to continue doing this when the directory is already finished and can just be updated to include the proper information. As admin knows, programming something like this is no joke, several thousand lines of code have to be written to make a full blown application like this work and there is no longer a need for what I was working on for the KDGA site because it already exists. I am going to continue working on it for discgolfweb.com and create a U.S. map for people to add to if they like. Site looks good admin. Joomla right?

This is quite the update for the site. A remarkable start toward a great course information site as well as many other things. Good work!
