Just got back from the city office. the are haveing a meeting that monday night for the park board . they are also planning a tour of all the parks not just woods park. .... I want to make some thing clear here also. i never said any thing about setting up a birdie cours. On the airieal photo of the course i have a course set up with some grerat long holes. one is 555 feet. but i also think that a good course should have some great birdie chances for the short distance thrower. and that would mean some real nice chances for aces for the pros. also putting the roads as OB's and bringing the water in play on some long and also some short holes will make it more chalanging. why does the chalange of 18 throw as far as you can hole apeal to the pros so much? let imagine the course is set up and its gotten populare. theirs a turnement going on and one of the holes throws across the park road. we cant block trafic of people comeing to the park but we also cant throw at the cars. dumb hole. you disc golfers thats been around awhile look back in yourdisc golf world news mags and find your winter 2003 issue# 64 . alo of the holes that we have been playing out thier are cool hole yes i said cool . i liked some of the hole we have set up out thier . but they would not fly as a permanate course. the course i have planned out there goes like this. 6 holes under 300ft. 4 holes 300-400 feet. 7 holes 400 feet or more. 2 of which are over 500. now does that sound like a birdie course> i used the trees alot and well out thier . tried to avoid the pavilions out thier . also used the roads for OBs. and even have a hole with a mando to make it more difficult and to avoid a pavilion that could have people in it on any day.
now i appologize if i atacted you smitty and i am willing to do so here in the format that the attack came . but i ask you . why cant we set up my course and let every one play it and get thier input. if its really a sucky course or not chaanging enough then yes we can consider an alternate course or alternet holes. but give it a shot and im sure every one one will be pleased with the chalange of the course and new players wont be so frustrated. when they play also.

I hear that the park is huge. It sound like you could almost put one championship style course as well as a small 9 hole beginner course. I just thought I would throw that out THERE.

I don't think anyone is against different ideas for new course designs. It helps to look at a potential course many different ways before making a decision.

Their are a lot of factors that go in to a good course design. One thing is that you want holes where the score will vary from player to player but is fair to all. Holes that are too short or too open are just 2 holes. Longish but wide open holes are just 3 holes. You want to make good use of trees along or even in the fairway.

One thing about long, challenging courses, such as KC's new Blue Valley, is that they require you to think about approach angles... how far to throw a drive for an upcoming dogleg or water shot... how fast the greens are... etc. This strategy that long, tough courses are starting to introduce is what golf is all about.

Something else about course design is that there can be hundreds of good holes possible on a stretch of nice land. Making 18 good holes that flow smoothly is the trick.

Herman Hill for example. I know of 6 different courses that individuals made up using alternate tees to existing baskets, but in a different order. A cool way to personalize an big course to your liking. Right now, the best alternate course would have to be skip-a-hole. The extreme nature of these holes adds a lot of variety. Par 70!

Remember, we have only been playing 10 holes. Nothing that we have ever played is set in stone. What Lizard has layed out may be good, who knows.

I can kinda see where lizard is coming from.......

I too would be pissed if some out-of-towner came to my house and started changing things and not asking for input, not saying that is what happened but if it was I would agree. I know I dont know all the facts and I really dont give a crap but I've had my toes stepped on before and am having them stepped on as we speak so I will say this consider your options the both of you.

Thanks sand,
I want to give you all a little idea of where this is all comeing from. I have helped set up a course in indiana. check it out in your guides. a long course in lafayette, Ross hills. great holes in that course . but it wasnt my dream course it was some one elses dream . but it was fun to help with ideas and two of my hole sugestions are in the course. one is a super long down hill hole through th woods really a cool right hand finess shot. any how i have had a dream of finding a place to set up a course and start a league. not just for me , yes i will be out to the course playing almost everyday , but also for the kids and other disc golfer in the comunity. A league that helps earn money for food banks and earns money to improve on the course and other park stuff. any one that has been their knows thereisnt even a playgound there at the park. i want to give back to the comunity that is going to give to use. I have been soliciting businesses in town drumming up donations to sponcer holes. 150-300 per donation gets a crap that get there businesses advertized at thier hole and the main sign when it gets put in . also a garintee of advertizement any any event for the next three years.
im also looking for any info on baskets, discs in bulk, and getting a club name to hot stanp on minis and discs for members and events. all of this has been a dream of mine. hell i dont work because of my back and sholders . disc is my physical theripy, its saved my ass. so i want to give back and make a great league . but it can only be as good as it members and that hopefully will be all of you guys.

I say everyone just wait till Monday, and have everyone walk 18, throwing input into each hole. Go from hole to hole and discuss what would be cool and challenging on each hole. Allowing for atleast dual pin placements.

On here we're getting nowhere, lets just wait till Monday and make a group effort.

Don't cut corners and put in home made baskets!!!!!! If you are making something for the future install something that will be there in the future and not need to be painted and replaced!!!!!

Im pretty sure the temps are just to get the city looking at the idea. It sounds like they'll put in the good baskets. Plus I dont think Sean will be able to part with his bucket basket.
