Moving up?
Moving up?
I know Smitty's view on the subject; I should move up because I win my division a lot. I would love to believe that my game is at a Pro level, but it's not; my PDGA rating reflects this along with the fact that I usually only win by a couple strokes. I want to move up for 2 reasons: I play better when I play with better players than myself and I'm ready to get out of the drama queen division (totally different subject/story).
Well, I wreaked some havoc on the PDGA discussion board; they are defending women sandbaggers everywhere. Some shouldn't go pro because they're too young (high school age), others think that moving up too soon is silly because we're no competition for Val, Des and those big arm ladies. I have a friend from Oklahoma who doesn't want to move up because she feels it will take away from the fun factor (the drama queens have taken that argument away for me).
Chuck Kennedy suggested, based on my PDGA profile, that I play in the rec. or intermed. men's division. He realizes there's not much of a Pro Women's field, but I've outgrown my competition in Advanced. I would like to hear others' opinion on this.

Re: Moving up?
Play pro against Disc Golf Mom in KDGA events.
At PDGA events if there are other Advanced Women, play Advanced.

Re: Moving up?
I recommend that you play in the men`s divisions. We always need something to look at.{ especially when you bend over to pick up your marker}
When you have to choose between your woman and discgolf, don`t be stupid-choose the discgolf.

Re: Moving up?
It doesn't seem like you win by that many shots when you do win. And winning a division with 3 or 4 players isn't the same as winning a men's advanced tournament multiple times, where there are 30-40 players at each event. So if the competition is close and your player rating is similar to your competitors, I don't see why you should feel compelled to change divisions.
It's kind of a tough situation. There aren't many women players. If 6 women show up to play a tournament, should there be 1 division, 2, or 3? Usually, at bigger events, it seems like women play in the most appropriate division for their rating. They want a chance to win something. In the upper divisions, payout is sometimes a smaller % of the field, and entries are higher, so its just a question of donating. At some events, women who don't mind donating will all play together.
What do you do? Play mens divisions? I could see how that would seem feasable, espescially if you were the only player. But if there were other women, it seems like it'd just be making the small women's division even smaller. That is the problem. Not what division the women are playing. It's that there are not enough female players. The solution is whatever brings more women in and encourages the most female players to play again.

If you know you are going to win or cash going into the tourney, then you need to move up.
I agree the womens divisions are small. Most TD's if they are smart pay all the women with a very flat payout. Which means you are going to lose money regardless. Robin usually breaks even on entry fee or comes out a little ahead (I am sure she would like some comp.)

Re: Moving up?
Well from some one who is pretty much stuck in one division for almost 20 years I understand your plite. Although I'm not winning in the division i'm in. I used to throw like mike and ring and all of the big arms but I just can't do it any more. I could go to the masters division and throw with the other old dudes but they even out throw me by a hundred feet on alot of holes. So I stay in the little AM II division and just hope to not come in last and maybe even win a disc.
In your case though with as few of women that play you do have the two choices put before you, move up or stay where your at !! I like the idea of you playing in the womens pro in KDGA events and playing the lower division in PDGA events. I am sure Robin would like to play against you now and then just for the compitition. But is it wrong for you to stay in your division and keep winning all the time? I don't think so . Its not your fault that another person missed the win by a shot or two. Now if you were winning by 10 shots every event then yes, I think it would be wrong. Just like it is wrong when one or two guys win in AMII every time they play.
Cudos Miranda for just being good enough to be in this situation. Play with your heart and keep winning, what ever you do.

Re: Moving up?
I would say "MOVE UP!!!", but then my opinion might be a bit biased.

Re: Moving up?
Truth be told, considering the lack of female players, I don't think winning a women's division all the time where you're playing to a great degree against the same group of 4-5 people you played against the last time, is comparable to someone winning in a men's division where they're playing a uniquely different group of 10-20 each tournament. I suppose the question is, would Miranda be winning all the time if she had a comparably sized group of women to compete against?
That being said, there's something about trying something different for sake of trying something different. I think one's game gets better with the more players they're exposed to, even if they're not the same gender.

Re: Moving up?
If you know that you're capable of playing better golf, and are still winning your division despite not playing as well as you personally know you're capable of, then it's time for a change. You said it yourself - you play better when you play with better players than yourself. If you can leave strokes out on the course and still win, it's not going to do much to improve your game.DUH wrote:I know Smitty's view on the subject; I should move up because I win my division a lot. Try Intermediate Men, Pro Women, anything that you will push you to become a better disc golfer.

Got 6?
Re: Moving up?
I'd say move up. I'm doing it with zero wins. Playing with better people is the best motivation to play better. Not much more expensive.
Re: Moving up?
MOVE UP! MOVE UP! MOVE UP!
Play Open at all KDGA events and give Mom a reason to play. She did only beat you by 2 strokes at Cherry Street in Winfield.
(What do you call a chick when you don't want her to be a pu$$?)

Re: Moving up?
Flip a coin at every event.
I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.
