Re: Doo Dah 2009
Thanks. Didn't see it mentioned before, but we'll be giving away a couple of baskets again this year.
beating the dead horse (because it's easy...)
It would be great if disc golf did not have to be fueled by the almighty dollar and the typical American attitudes that seem to thrive and proliferate in all of our infrastructure and large-scale institutions, but the PDGA is an American institution fueled by American ideals; namely: profit, growth, competition, and the sacrifice of the individual for the sake of the institution. It's not that this is true in all cases---I'm glad that you guys can have a PDGA---but, to me personally, the competitive aspects that fuel this or any other sport/competition/business/corporation are getting a little old. You're kidding yourself when you buy into these organizations. Major League Baseball has had it's steroids, cocaine, and gambling. The modern Olympic Games are stock-full of cheaters and corruption. Professional football has been forced to deal with these and any number of other problems. How big does the PDGA need to get before it succumbs to these very issues?
Throw discs for yourself and live life for yourself. Fuel your fire cause the fire needs fuel. Be more selfish. Dictate your own happiness. The plastic can only get you so far, is only capable of bringing a limited amount of joy into your life. Live for reasons greater than disc golf and the world will be a much better place. Disc golf is a great sport, but we all need to prioritize, be responsible.
I'm just a college drop-out/average disc golfer, but I'm glad to've had the chance to have spoken my mind here.
Awaiting eventual (expected, possibly required) backlash.
These are just opinions, but they're mine and that's good enough.
Some may say he's bitter, but I think he's just a man.

Matt doesn't have a single problem with the Doo Dah. His problem is with the PDGA.
I will move his post, so it doesn't take away from the Doo Dah. I think it will open up some valid discussion.

Re: Doo Dah 2009
I'm thinking of giving an amount of cash to help sponsor. Would I be able to do this at check-in on Saturday or would you need it before then?Schoen-hopper wrote:Tournament sponsorship now includes Fox & Hound ($1000+ value?), Shooters, Discs Unlimited, Lightning Discs, Discin’ RannMatt, Super Nice Guys, Heibert & Decker, Robin Reimer, Builders Inc, Knolla's Pizza, Pre-Paid Legal, Bubba’s Nekked BBQ, Maggie’s Scotch & Soda. Still looking for sponsors. Deadline for logo submittal is Monday.
Oh, and would I get the 10% off my own entry fee?

Yep, and yep. Send Randy a PM or email with the amount. Soon, if you want to be listed as a sponsor. I'm sure it would be fine to bring it Saturday.
