Re: 2009 LSDISCS MIGHTY SHUNGA OPEN SEPT 26-27 B-TIER TOPEKA KS
We layed out the lake alternate course Saturday and there are a couple additions that were made as follows....
Hole 4- We marked ob on both side of this hole making a fairway that gets smaller and smaller as you get closer to the hole.
Hole 6- Was made a little longer pushing it close to the bottom of the valley in a little cubby by the forest.
Hole 7- Used to be a birdie or die hole. Got lengthened to 400' and added an anny fairway. The basket got put on a mound to create a slippery putting surface.
Hole 9- First one after the tunnel shot hole... goes down the hill along the houses.... we added a mando left of the big tree to prevent people from throwing over the next holes fairway and forcing either an s shot, or super straight shot. OB remains along the property lines of the homes.
Hole 12- The short hole that shoots down to the water just over the trail. The water line was marked ob to prevent confusion as their are a lot of water weeds that would make the ob line confusing.
Hole 17- Was lengthened to 275' from 200'. Still a birdie, just not a gimmie.
Hole 18- We added ob flags for the entire hole. The flags start off making a dog leg right which people could either cut the corner with a risky longer drive, or lay up about 325 to get around the corner (their is a large tree on the inside of the dog leg that would need to be avoided). The fairway then goes straight to the hole, getting smaller as you reach the basket.
Lake shawnee regular will play almost identical to the lsdiscs open layout except for the hole on 16 will shoot the new placement in to the gap in the trees. Crestview gold will be played, and big shunga will remain the same as in the past.
I just ordered the beer for the players... Blue Moon Blegian Wheat, and Amber Bock. Food will be burgers and brats.

The players party will cost an additional $7 and will include food, drinks, live band, and a custom pint glass. We will also have a mini golf course set up for peoples entertainment. There will be a small cost to play (couple bucks) and prizes will be awarded to the winners... probably have some ctps in there somewhere.

Re: 2009 LSDISCS MIGHTY SHUNGA OPEN SEPT 26-27 B-TIER TOPEKA KS
ps. we will have water, gatorade, pop, and other snacks being carted around the courses like you would see at a ball golf course. All of the funds raised by those sales will be going towards the players party to cut down on the out of pocket costs from our club and lsdiscs. I am interested to see the response this gets!

Whats the plan on when the alt courses will be set up and taken down? I'd love a chance to play them outside of the tournament but know you probably don't want to keep the baskets out long.. how about just set them in concrete and make em permanent?

Re: 2009 LSDISCS MIGHTY SHUNGA OPEN SEPT 26-27 B-TIER TOPEKA KS
Believe me, I would love to set them in concrete and would do it next week if they let us... but... unfortunately...
We will be setting the baskets up at the alt lake on Friday morning/afternoon and will have it set up until saturday evening after the round. They will then get moved to Big Shunga where they will remain for probably a week.. maybe play league out there next wed.
Doubles will be Friday afternoon/evening with flex start between 4-6p. There will be an open division and an am division. 100% payout (cash for pros, merch for ams). $10/person, $20/team. This will be the only time to play the alt lake outside the tourney. It is marked now with flags and you are welcome to go out there and throw it if you like.

Baggage!
I hope he finished well.... and gets ...more plastic from himself!
Seriously though, It would be really cool if he cashes High in the Open division(by score). At least well enough that he would get the confidence to MOVE UP! Cashing in open is much more satisfying

I wanted to say thanks to all those who made the trip to the Shunga this weekend. And those that didn't make it, hopefully you can make it next year when this event will be an A-tier. I got a lot of feedback from the players this weekend and it appeared that everyone had a lot of fun on the courses and at the kick a players party. Personally, I had a lot of fun running it this year and was far less stressful when I wasn't trying to compete in the event and run it at the same time. I also had a lot of fun driving the beverage cart around and getting to see a lot of good... and bad... golf! I look forward to the next non-sanctioned event where we can make it a REAL beverage cart. I would love to hear any other comments about the tournament whether compliments or constructive criticism. Hope to see everyone next weekend in lawrence at the Okthrowberfest (OCT 3)

Nils certainly played well this weekend, and has been playing well for quite awhile. In the past it has been a little inconsistent but I think he is nailing it down a little better lately. I haven't beat him for awhile now and it is driving me nuts. I originally had him in open because that is where he belongs, but ultimately it is his choice since there is no rule other than a suggestion about when an adv player needs to move up. There were two reasons he stayed in the advanced division this weekend; he hadn't won a sanctioned event in adv yet, and he was encouraged to stay in the division be several players wanting to make the division larger.ronconversjr wrote:Baggage!![]()

He will be playing open from now on including next week in Lawrence.
While we are talking of baggerism, and without mentioning any names, I know for a FACT that in the last 1-2 years there has been a handful of players in the kdga that have remained in the advanced division despite being well qualified to be in open, based upon their ratings, and based upon the fact that they win nearly every am event they enter. Not to mention, they would have cashed in many of those events had they entered as open. I am sure they have their reasons as well, and am sure that they get crap about it too (I would hope). Just want to make sure that the same treatment gets handed to others as does/did to my brother.
