Courses to Play in San Diego?

Post by DiscWiz »

Heading to San Diego next week and would like to get a round in. Has anyone played Morley Field or Sun Valley?

Heard Morley Field & Emerald Isle are both decent. Pay to play. Tons of courses up by LA. Hit La Mirada if you go there.

DeLeavega is way north of San Diego up in Santa Cruz, almost to San Francisco.

Emerald Isle is nice, but its in Oceanside which is about 40 mins north of San Diego. It's on a ball golf course and I think it cost around $5 to play.

Morley Field is fun. Snapper Pierson's course. It's pay to play because it's crowded. Cool design. I recommend it but if you are playing it on the weekend expect to wait.

Morley Field

Post by DiscWiz »

Played Morley Field on Monday, and while it has a certain charm, it is very dated (it is over 30 years old). On the day I played, Monday 2 PM it was very very crowded and we were backed up 3 deep on most tees. Many of the holes crossed and most distances were in the 200' to 300' range.

Fun place to visit and the people were very kind, but not a place for a seroius round of golf.

That sounds as crowded as when I played there six or eight years ago and I played on a Saturday. I'm sure it would be more fun if it were less crowded because it is an interesting design. Sounds like they need more courses in the San Diego area. Too bad you missed seeing the shoe tree.

The original Shoe Tree is gone, but they birthed a new one and have upwards of 50 pairs in it already.
