Ehh, call me a pessimist but the rationale for the IOC removing baseball and softball from the games was that those sports aren't represented well in all parts of the world. Disc golf is next to non existent outside of the U.S., Canada, Japan, and some Scandinavian countries, so I'd assume we'd have an even greater problem. Then again, how do you explain
curling?
But thats all moot to me. As far as I'm concerned, I'd rather our sport not be included a ridiculously overhyped, nationalistic propaganda fest like the Olympics. Its not that disc golf doesn't deserve to be in the Olympics, its that the Olympics don't deserve to have disc golf.

There's no chance for disc golf, at least not in 2016. That boat has already sailed and disc golf ain't on it.

I would just assume that if ball golf is not an Olympic sport, then there is no reason to believe disc golf will be anytime soon.

ball golf was turned down beause of the time required to play the tournaments would take weeks with people from every possible country.

I would love to see a disc sport in the olymics but not disc golf . Like ball golf it would take way to long with every country involved. A team sport like ultimate would be a great way to get disc sports into the main stream through the olympics.

Germany has 20 courses according to the PDGA directory.
Ring wrote:Sweden
Has 91 courses, the most in Europe. (Its also a Scandinavian country).
Ring wrote:France...
3 whole courses. They have 100 times as many cheeses than that there.
Ring wrote:I mean pretty much all over Europe
Finland (sort of Scandinavian country) - 30 courses.
Denmark (Scandinavian country) - 26 courses.
Switzerland - 21 courses.
Norway (Scandinavian country) - 19 courses.
United Kingdom - 14 courses.
Netherlands - 5 courses.
Belgium - 2 courses.
Czech Republic - 2 courses.
Italy - 1 course.
Poland - 1 course.
Yep, outside Scandinavia and maybe Switzerland, them Europeans are really chucking the
plastique. Germany has potential. 20 years from now who knows, but right now, Europe is light years behind the U.S. Until then, there's more likelihood of tiddlywinks or cup stacking being an Olympic sport first.
