History of the course:
The Harvey County Health Department, in partnership with the City of Newton Parks Department, coordinated the creation and installation of the 9-hole disc golf course in Centennial Park. The Newton disc golf course is located on the east side of Centennial Park at 1500 N. Kansas Avenue and is accessible from the Sand Creek Trail.
The course was funded in part by Preventive Health and Health Services Block grant funds through a 2012 grant from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE). The City of Newton Parks Department installed the equipment and contributed the funds for the tee pads and all of their time for labor.
Rodney Dyck, from Moundridge, designed the course to be family-friendly but yet challenging enough for the veteran player.
According to the Kansas 2009 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), 26.1 percent of Harvey County residents reported they did not participate in any physical activities or exercise, other than their regular job, in the past 30 days. Additionally, only 43.9 percent of Harvey County residents reported they participated in moderate physical activity defined as 30 or more minutes per day for 5 or more days per week, or vigorous activity for 20 or more minutes per day on 3 or more days.
The new course aligns with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) recommended strategies for obesity prevention by increasing opportunities for extracurricular physical activity and improving access to outdoor recreational facilities.

Re: Origin of the Centennial 9
Somebody walking through the park came up and handed me a red disc they found on the south side of four with your name on it, quite faded. I'll babysit it for you.
