i sent out that pic of bart and then one of me (cuz i was drunk)

anyhow, for the record, bart didn't actually win first. what i meant was.... he won "something" (like a cool award)

so i guess in the words of ricky bobby, he wasn't 1st so he was last.

i won a cool award too, for being an old fart. shot a zero cuz i didn't get there in time to play and just walked around and did a little caddying

for the record, i'm 59

i got so jazzed sat, that i went out there sunday by myself (actually took the dog) and played most of the blue course, i think 12 holes.

got a few aces, and some birds, finished 12 in like 14 under i think (may have lost count on a couple) but it's the most insane course i can imagine

Play it after an Ice storm, or when there are 4 inches of snow being dumped on it as you play.

It is pretty crazy, but not nearly as crazy as it was 4 or 5 years ago.

I think it would be cool to play a tournament there where you had maybe 13 holes or so going down in the canyon past the existing course and meeting back on top at the skull hole and then play 5 holes back on top/ dipping down in. Then 2nd round you could reverse the direction.

It is pretty cool now too, with the blue & red tees offering uniquely different angles at most of the holes.

Shan and I did some work out there last year and added several extra holes beyond the skull hole. In fact we had a tee off at the skull hole shooting down into the canyon. Even had a 90 degree turn hole. It was pretty sick.

I have wanted to design a GOLD course out there. That was longer on some holes. Maybe took the better of the two holes and used it.

That would be bad ass! Par 4's and 5's everywhere. Know your landing areas or consider yourself bogied.

Think you could do like 7 holes down and 7 back? You could do more if you didn't worry about interference issues, which the course has plenty of already as it plays Kamikazi style.

Par 4 holes would probably make it even more about finesse. The challenge would be to design it to somehow make use of the trees/ terrain, yet take some of the randomness out of it. So many good shots gone terrible and sometimes vice versa, etc.

But if a fairway went down a couple hundred feet and then took a sharp dogleg with the basket finishing down in or near the bottom... those kind of holes would be cool.

Or say a hole with the tees down in the canyon throwing down the canyon and then the hole is considerably far away up on one side or the other. Make it where you could choose 2 routes: 1 throwing out of the canyon right away and trying to play the majority of the length on the high ground and the other trying to throw down the canyon and hopefully making it out.

Hole 2/21 are the only true par 4's right now. Those boards make the low route too much of a bad choice. While not the best par 4's that could be had, they are still fun and show what kind of potential a course like this has for good par 4's.

I don' know about good par 4's, when you get a 4 you are pumped.

2 is for sure harder then 21.

2 is all about having a big gun. You have to throw your drive out far into the field, then bust a spike hyzer over the top. 2 on Blue is my favorite hole on the course.

21 isn't to hard to get a 4 on. I still try to go around the boards unless I have a helk of a wind. You can still usually get a 5 if you hit the boards. Board, Long flick turnover, upshot, putt. This still gives you 1 shot to mess up.

I 3's 21 both rounds, but then it wasn't too windy.

What other ideas for good par 4's could be done out there?

How about a hole that play on one side of the canyon to the other. A long shot goes into the canyon and a smart one lays up before it. Then the basket is still a ways on from the other side.

You could skip a couple holes and make them better/longer.

I don't know the name of the holes, but its pretty early in the round, you come out of the trees, tee off in the field and throw a flick or RHBH anny at the basket just protected by some trees. Skip that basket and throw to the next one that is way back in the trees. Maybe 6's tee to 7's basket?

I think that is the anny hole that play to where people park for the tourney. Yeah that would be cool. Somekind of shot like that would be really neat if there was the long, more open route but also a shortcut through the woods. These scenarios don't work well with par 3's, but perfectly with par 4's or 5's.

I like to teeing off next to this basket and playing to the same basket. Then you have to get out of the tee area before you tee.
