OCTOBERFRIZ....FRIZ...FRiz...friz...
I agree, that it isn't what it use to be.
I think that there are many things that have caused this problem also.
1-There are more events then ever on everyone schedule.
2-The players packs have had a steady decline.
3-People don't like the chaos that goes on, when it is time to head to the courses.
4-People like to know where they are going to play and on what hole.
5-People always question were there money is going.

I think reason #2 and #5 are the complaints I have heard the most. I don't care for the "crazy-drunk-I-want-to-fight-someone" part. Why can't we all be happy drunks?
WAAAAAYYYY back in the day, women played for free an then at half price. The players pack had a premium disc and a throwin' piece of plastic. There was always a killer shirt included along with the usual Friz trinkets. There was plenty of beer and a hot meal on Saturday night.
I'm sure that the cost of putting on the Friz have increased significantly over the years. Doesn't Harv rent the entire fairgrounds for the Friz? That can't be cheap.
The payouts are seldom posted. People add up the number in the division times the players and assume that total will be the payout. It never has been. I understand that folks get payed for playing doubles, mixed doubles and glow. All of that is included in the entry fee. If you weren't there to take part.... oh well.
Personally, I have never seen the Friz as a highly competative event. It's more of a tonic to the soul. If you look at it that way, it's a bargain.

Posting were parts of the entry fee went could easily stop many of the questions.
$2 to doubles
$2 to moonlight
$2 to this that and the other
$5 to beer
$2 to food
$5 to rental on the grounds
$2 to KDGA fees
That would be $20 out of each entry, then you would be playing for 40 instead.
Lets say that there were 100 players just to make it easy.
That would be 200 for doubles
200 for moonlight
200 to players packs
500 to beer
200 to sandwiches
500 to rent the grounds
200 to KDGA
The last 2 years my partners and I won PYP doubles, and 2 years ago I won moonlight. I never got any $$ for either.
The thing that would make it better in my book would be simple and free. Before each round, have a print out of where people are playing and what hole they are starting on. Post the start time of the round. Have the cards out were people could trade them and play with their buddies. This is the biggest headache of the entire event if you ask me.
People never know where or when they should play.
I also think the turnout would be much better if the info was made public more then a week before the event.
Cost and schedule would be helpful to many people.

What can I remember from the Friz?
Roger had the coolest Friday the 13th RV set-up. Complete with a Jason Vorhees walpaper, a graveyard, fog machine, blacklight, and a florescent painted mannequin.
Wichita played in a big glow doubles group. We teed off "firing range" style, with everyone throwing at once. Pretty sweet to watch. Next year, someone should supply some LED lights. I couldn't get any anywhere. Still don't know anyone except Mace Man that has them.
There was an auction for the KDSS. Not too many people around at the time so people were getting steals of deals.
Talked to some partying youngsters from Springfield. They said they were from "the Hills" and explained to me the difference between rednecks and hill-billys. "Rednecks just like to drink, but we like to kill stuff. Ey Jim-Bob, you 'member that deer I killed with my bad breath?"
"Yup. Earl here don't brush him teef." Ok, that wasn't exactly what they said.
Firewalking and dive rolling over the KC fire and eating some of their fire chili mixed with spaghetti to quence the heat.
Dave Wiley saying "I'm about to make the worst decision of my life". This was right before he became the captain, dressed up in an American flag and jock-strap. He went from group to group during the second round and wouldn't stop the harrassment until someone took a drink from the 1, 2, or 3 bottle. LOL!
Riding with James Brown and getting people up out of their tents to drink with us and hauling them back to the Wichita campfire.
Guy that pissed near the fire, layed down and slept in it, woke up with a mannequin, and wailed on the mic all the following night.
Shooting Saturn Missles at the Wichita camp and Roger. Running for my life in the pouring rain afterwards.
Jon from Wichita rocking us with his unique hyper-style bass guitar.
Scooba and Friz and Hep doing the famous hits "Iqbal ruined my life", "MFer", "Swarm of the Locusts", "Wake up", "We're too loud"... several others.
Some new hits from The Refs: Dave Beats His Meat on the Toilet Seat, the Drunk Guys Going to Shoot Us song, Iqbal is a Sand-Figure...what am I forgetting?

Too give you an idea of how messed up people were at the Friz... There was one dude that passed out in his truck with his head on his horn. And he didn't wake up!
One of the hardest things a man does in his life is waking up at the Friz to play some golf. There were 3 rounds were I was sure that I would not be playing. I ended up playing just for the hell of it.
I think people are realizing that there is no shame in joining the DNF list at the Friz. The golf is really quite insignificant. I know it took me a couple of years to get this.
How about the golf though? Results from Moonlight Dubs? Mini-guts? I played a round with ambidextrous Doug who hit an ace. Stauf from Wichita continued our ace tradition at the Friz. How much did those guys get paid? Was there an accuracy and distance contest this year?

Nothing really to say here that we don't all already know.

I think the Beatles were there this year.

And then there was this guy.

Somebody obviously messed up.

Friz
It wasnt my best Friz ever, but I did have a great time. Smaller doesn't mean not as good as far as i am concerned. Whether or not the amounts are posted, everyone needs to consider that partys are not free... food, camping, beverages, are not cheap... anyone who pays bills should have a decent idea about the value of a dollar.
I do like the suggestions to make it better, why doesnt someone take the reigns and make it happen.
Go, have a good time, add, share... Am i missing something?

The Friz is and always has been Harveys deal. I think as long as he is happy with the way the thing is going that will be that. The Friz is not a golf tournament it is a week of debochary and good times, It is a statement to our society that such an event can still happen without everyone there ending up with a criminal record.
I have not been in 4-5 years and I will most likely not make it again (I am more interested in golf tournaments) but if you are looking for a great time with good people and a little golf mixed in the FRIZ is where its at.
