Buddy Kassner designed the orignal Herman. The New Herman was a joint thing....Bill Paulson, Buddy, Bob decker, and Jerry Sherwood.

WHO DESIGNED HERMAN HILL

Post by b »

WRONG JEFF. I HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ORIGINAL HERMAN DESIGN. I WASNT CONSIDERED AN AUTHORITY BACK THEN. THE ORIGINAL LAYOUT WAS MORE OR LESS A JOINT EFFORT LED BY MARK JENNINGS, BILL PAULSON, BOB HERGERT, HARVEY BARGER, AND SEVERAL OTHERS I WOULDNT WANT TO INCRIMINATE. IT WENT SOMETHING LIKE MARK THREW HIS DISC AND WHERE IT LANDED WAS A GOOD PIN PLACEMENT. THEN THE OTHERS TOLD HIM WHATS WHAT AND SHOWED HIM A BETTER HOLE. THEN THEY TRADED BACK AND FORTH UNTIL EVERY OTHER HOLE WAS A GOOD ONE. OF THE ORIGINAL HOLES ONLY THESE REMAIN: 5 SHORT(WAS 6), 12 LONG W/O THE WATER, 13 L, 14 S, 15 L, 16L, 17 S, & 18 S. OLD HOLES 1 & 3 WERE LOST WITH THE COP SHOP. WE MADE THE PRESENT HOLE 1, CHANGED 1 TO 2 AND MADE A SHORT HOLE 3 BY THE NEW COP PARKING. WHEN THE WATERPLANT WAS BUILT WE LOST HOLES 2, 3, 4, 9 & 10. WE THEN MADE THE PRESENT HOLE 2 AND 3. WE MADE THE NEW HOLES 6 & 7 WHERE WE HADNT PLAYED BEFORE. 5 BECAME 4, 6 BECAME 5, AND 7 BECAME 8. HOLES 9 AND 10 WERE CREATED TO GET AROUND THE BUILDING W/O WALKING FAR. BILL WANTED 2 TEES ON EVERY HOLE SO THATS WHAT WE DID. I HAD INPUT ON ALL NEW HOLES SINCE THE ORIGINAL DESIGN. ON HOLE 4 ONLY THE LONG TEE REMAINS FROM THE ORIGINAL. A HUGE TREE IS GONE FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE FAIRWAY. HOLE 8 HAS LONGER PINS AND THE SHORT TEE IS ????. HOLE 11S TEES ARE NEW SPOTS WHICH CHANGED THE OLD FAIRWAY. HOLE 13 SHORT TEE WAS PUT IN BY THE POTTS FAMILY DURING THEIR REIGN. THE TREES WERE NOT A FACTOR THEN. WE TOLD THEM THEY WERE 100 FEET SHORT OF A GOOD HOLE. ITS STILL THE SAME 10 YEARS LATER BUT THE TREES GREW. THE 2ND TEES ON HOLES 12 AND 14-18 WERE PUT IN YEARS AGO. SHORT 17 HAD A LARGE TREE 80 FEET FROM THE PIN WHICH IS WHY THE TEE POINTS AROUND THE FAIRWAY. IT WAS THE ONLY SHOT THEN. LONG 18 WAS A STAB AT JENNINGS. YOU COULDNT THROW YOUR DISC UP TO IT.
THESE ARE MY RECOLLECTIONS OF HERMANS HISTORY. AND OF COURSE ALL OPINIONS ARE MINE ONLY AND ONLY MINE ARE RIGHT.

I am assuming "b" = Buddy? Nice post! I googled "Air Capital Disc Golf Club" and got that one site (I don't want to give any advertising to it!) with the tour of the course (photos with descriptions). That's the way it was about 7 or 8 years ago. I thought it was kind of cool to look back at the way it was.

We finally heard from Buddy! Thanks for the history, Bud. Hopefully we'll have the course "finished" soon. If my input is of any persuasion, perhaps we can get some "non-regular layout" 3rd placements in.

btw Don... it's aircapdiscgolf.com

You don't have any problem advertising the fact that the site has course photos and descriptions. Why hide the link?

Just in case the rest of you folks were wondering,

http://www.cheapfrisbees.com/acdc/

There are some outdated links though.

Ok Iq. I thought Don was misdirected to a different site that was discussed once.

I had never seen the old photos w/ descriptions. It was cool to take a trip back in time. You ought to do something like this again.

2, not to bad really, except is rainier the hell and the closest course is kind of bland. All the holes are like around 200-300 ft with no tree interference. Theres only so much of that you can take.

Im glad the tee-pads came in nice, I cant wait for christmas to check them out. Hopefully there will be an ice bowl running somewhere i can hop in.
