If the golf course is too difficult, then simply dont play it.
I never once used the words Too difficult. I did say that those holes are UNFAIR.

Play them from a spot that is fair and call it good.

I don't know if there is a fix to holes 16 and 17. I would like to play 16 on the dike between the 2 ponds, it would turn it into a 2 shot hole that was less then 400 feet.

New Bridges

Post by cnote »

Played the Derby course a couple days ago. LOVE THE NEW BRIDGES; especcially since my six year old loves to play and she has trouble crossing the creek beds. I don't know how much of an undertaking it would be but I personally think it would be great if there were some sand in the creek beds as my aim is a little suspect sometimes and I end up in the mud at least twice per round.

Has anyone seen what the new hole 6 looks like after a rain? Is it playable? When you say new bridges, did they put in any in the last month, say on hole #6?

yeah 3 new bridges i think(one on 6 and two on 9). 6 always gives me fits. i'm a lefty and i always seem to bounce my drive off a tree and then end up laying up for par. But yeah the bridges are tube metal frame w a heavy diamond shaped mesh for walkway; heck of a lot better than a mud covered 2x4! LOL!

I just finished playing the full 18 holes at the some what new derby course. My comments: Awsome it is now a full 18 holes. New basket placements, and course direction great, flows nicely. The brush piles on 7 and 9 tho, seriously, is there any way we can get them cleared? Derby is challenging enough with all the trees in the middle of fairways, but to not even be able to see the basket is practicly impossible. Threw me off a little with removal of the third basket by the pond that used to be hole 7, but other then those two things, great job guys. Hopefully soon, I will be able to start showing back up on league nights.

I'll ask about the piles. Also look for Derby to be on the league schedule when it is updated pretty soon.

Holes 15, 16, 17 at derby

Post by Bonz »

Ever since the first time I played derby, we have always had at least three holes along the pond. Sure it is challenging for a beginner, especially if they don't know how to control a hyzer or anny out over the ponds and bring it back far enough to lay up on the dyke, I've lost at least three discs in those ponds. And sure it upset me, but it just told me I needed to play more, practice more, and remember that being out 15 to 20 bucks is a risk you take at any course. Doesn't even have to be a water trap you loose the disc in, it can be thick brush or over grown rough you can loose on in just as easy. The whole game of disc golf isn't fair if you think about it. You never hit a basket in the exact number of strokes you want, you loose plastic anywhere, and there is always someone better then you. So stop cryin and belly achen, play the sport, remember there is a risk of loosin plastic, have fun. Or just don't play. Hell Lizard, you are the one that told me that two years ago now. Get over it!

Mainly just the brush pile on 7. The one on 9 is workable if you trow to the right of it and anny or hyzer that direction.

so are people just throwing into the brush pile and dealing with it? i didn't see any reasonable shot to be made and just skipped the hole. I hate skipping holes.

For league, we were setting up a temp tee just inside the woods to the right of the pile. About a 230' left handed shot. I'll try to find something out soon on the brush pile.

Got to finally play Derby about a week ago. Really nice for the most part, but could use some tweaks before teepads get installed. Made a nice upshot from the top of the woodpile. :D

Aside from getting that cleared, the only other hole I'd really have to complain about is #9. I played it two times and for whatever reason ended up coming close to the #5 tee box. Any chance this hole can get moved more to the west? I also wish the west pond could have been brought into play more, but I suppose the walking path nixed that idea.

As for #17, yeah, I know this hole is going to swallow some discs, but God knows I've seen worse. (18 long at Oak is worse IMO). Small arms just need to learn to play their tee shot to get a nice placement, and then fire at the pin when its in range. I did lose a disc on this hole, but not in the water.

If there's something that needs correcting, it would be getting all the tee signs pointed in the correct direction. A couple of times, I almost found it more logical to tee off backwards or sideways.
