Basket #10 at Oak Park
Word is that this basket was hacked off at the base and stolen. Probably for use as a home basket. Please report anything you may hear that could help lead to catching the thief.

Re: Basket #10 at Oak Park
There is an arrangement for the city to replace this. It hasn't got final approval yet and DGA is short on Mach3 baskets right at the moment. I'm trying to get a basket with a sleeve. If so, what single hole could most use two placements?
-Buddy wants hole 17 to have a placement on the other side of the hill.
-Hole 18 could have a deep placement.
-Would be nice to have Hole 1's old placement back since this area is not being used.
When we get funds to replace the baskets, I'm hoping there can be alts on many of the holes. It would be really nice if we could move some to the edge of the woods. Not sure if we still have strong opposition on that or not. Without using the trees, the only option on some of these holes is shorter, which isn't a good option.

Hole # 8 could use a different location now that a guarding tree is taken out by the city.
Re: Basket #10 at Oak Park
Hole 2: deeper in the trees
Deeper location for hole 9, could probably make it a true par 4.

Re: Basket #10 at Oak Park
There was some balking, but the city agreed to purchase this today.
There was some talk about getting a city managed fund for course maintenance. Not exactly sure how this would work, but at least the club wouldn't be responsible for all the course repairs. Not that the city hasn't helped us, especially with this replacement basket, but how will they respond to helping us replace all 18 baskets?
The club has a plan for this that was discussed at the annual meeting, but it's going to take a motivated team to get the gears turning. I simply don't have the time I need to get this moving in any kind of timely manner.
So we can do one hole at Oak with dual pins. Hole 17 might be the best alt for now?
Good ideas on alt pins. As long as we are dreaming here, hopefully of a future reality.... Haven't really thrown to some of these locations, but as many rounds as we've played on that track, we should be able to estimate some of these.
1: Long left old location in the pocket.
2: Deeper would be nice.
3: Not much room. Could put one on the short side of the trees in the old location.
4: Deeper in the trees would be cool, but could mess with hole #3 long tee or #5 long tee. I would say either slightly deeper in the trees or maybe have a shorter location right behind the big tree that makes it critical not to be short on the drive / upshot.
5: Shorter and lefter in the trees?
6: There is room to go longer along that tree line.
7: Don't know. It's been a sensitive area in the past as has all the wooded area out there. That's why we don't do the Ice Bowl there anymore. What if there was an area closer to the road just past the cedar? Would make a crazy righty hole even crazier and rightier.
8: Needs some replacement trees. We've lost what, 4 or so big pines here? A pin to the right by the road, I dunno, would have to see it. Longer up the middle? I think over up on the higher ground long and left wouldn't be too bad. We could make that sidewalk OB if we wanted to add some challenge.
9: Longer would be tough. Not sure how far you could go, but how that narrows, that sounds like it would be a good hole.
10: Just on the other side of the big tree at the end would be a lot tougher. Not just because of the tree, but because the OB to both sides narrows considerably.
11: Somewhere halfway up the slope?
12: I'd say a little longer on the other side of the tree behind the basket. But there might be a few more shots over by 13's long tee? Or down by the water.
13: Plenty of room for longer here. Would be tough if it was longer.
14: How about shorter and over by the road underneath the last tree on the right? Would see a few more birdies, but the road is really close. You don't want the basket too close to OB though. We already break this rule for hole 13.
15: Longer would be crazy tough. Sounds fun. You would see a lot more upshots / 2nd drive shots going over the road. You might call a lot of these par 3.5's. I think hole 10 long is a par 4. The proposed 6, 9, existing 14 long, and this one would be solid pro par 3.5 holes.
16: The spot we use is perfect. You could make it slightly longer to the right.
17: Over on the other side of the dike. How far down? I would say about halfway. How far should the shot be? I would say at least as far as the current shot. Perhaps farther, perhaps not.
18: Longer in that pocket behind the big tree. I think you would see almost as many birdies, but quite a bit more bogies.
That was fun. Sounds like there are a few more viable alternatives than I thought. Would certainly be great to have some more variety. But after the new-ness wears off, you don't want any holes that make you say "That sure was dumb. The original is way better". On the holes like 16 where there isn't much room, just making a small change would probably be the best answer.

Re: Basket #10 at Oak Park
Jerry, Buddy, and several others that helped installed a new basket on hole 8 and move 8's basket to hole 10. 2 pins on 8 we'll try to rotate frequently for a while. For the pin on the left: since you can see down the park road, no need for a mando. Making a mando doesn't help the real problem, which is the casual players who don't know the rules. Working on getting some mando signs that would actually be visible. If a car gets hit, we may have to make a mando tree. Thought about making the sidewalk OB (we wouldn't have placed it so close), but Buddy mentioned correctly that there would be too many short drives being punished because of fluke kicks of trees. Yes, I will ask for trees to be planted on this hole. But it will take a long time for them to be a factor when you consider that they won't plant any kind of evergreen because of the blight. That's if I get anything approved; most years I get rejected due to no budget for them. Remember, if anyone wants to donate some trees, the city would likely plant them for us.
