Good turnout for league on Derby! (despite me forgeting to announce it last week and the earlier start time)
We played 19 holes, skipping 9 through 11 on the second loop through due to darkness/difficult holes/trees/disc searching combination.
9/30/08
Derby
19 players
calm and mild conditions
Scooba & Phil Jackson: -12!
Josh & Cali: -10!
Ben & Don Z: -9.

I will not be running league tomorrow evening at Herman Hill.
Good chance it will be raining.
If you want to run league, give me a call 612-7896.
Scheduled for playing doubles, short tees I believe.
If you want to run league, I will need some written results for money taken & given and $1.50 per player.

Mike ran event
HH Park
Blue Tees
10 players. We played Conservative California. (had to take your mulligan if you used it). 2/3 of regular handicap for ams.
Open (6)
Josh Hull: 44!
Brandon Nelson: 45
Handicap (4)
Andy Horning: 55-(2/3*7=5) = 50
Scott Miller: 55-(2/3*7=5) = 50
Regretably, there were some things that came up that caused some debate. I've always tried my best to communicate how we run league, so I will try to clarify here.
First off, a player hit an ace and was paid nothing. It was his 2nd shot. For about the last 10 years, it has been a rule that a Cali gets paid only at his first shot at an ace. Singles, Doubles, or otherwise, every player gets ONE shot at the club ace fund per hole. This is at both course bulletins on the club info sheet I posted.
Then there was the issue of a player going right through a mando tree. I don't like mando's for this very reason and I'm working towards getting trees so we don't need them. The rule is to take an approximate vertical line through the base of the mando tree and extend it upward. Benefit of the doubt goes to the player.
Lastly, there was an issue with how handicaps are established. The rule is that the first time a player plays singles, they get NO handicap. This is even posted on the handicaps sheet. A player can always play in the rec division for free to set the handicap, or as often as they like, for that matter. However, I've been trying to approximate a handicap for first time players so they can get in the prize fund. The problem in this case was that they showed up for an all short layout and shot a great par round. Then next time their handicap went down from the approximated handicap to zero. So for being nice, it actually looks like I'm not being fair. It is hard to make it fair for everyone all the time. What I can say is that I take all singles scores from each event and update the handicaps after every league. While the handicap league does advantage the low handicapper, the pro and rec division are always an options. Scores are tracked for handicaps in all divisions.

I don't input tourney results.
We play handicap singles once a week. It only takes playing once to get a handicap set.
If you don't have one, you can play rec for free or play pro OR I usually offer to give people an estimate based off their casual round scores. However, once a player plays their first event and sets their handicap, the estimate is no longer considered.

2 weeks in a row nobody has showed up for league on Saturday except the guy running it!
I'll be there at Herman tomorrow. Be there by 10:00am and bring your handwarmers. I have a few extra if anyone doesn't have any. Come on out and play some recently moved pin placements. We'll be playing doubles from the Red Tees.
