I will call Jack and see if we are still in. Do you want to go Jump Putter? You may be able to ride with Lizard.

OK, back to the Ace Race... Doc, would you like a players pack?
Course has been mowed and it is Be-youtiful. Got the discs in and they are great. Lots of different colored discs & hats to choose from. Very nice looking hats. And the disc looks like a winner this year. It's already been PDGA approved, so you can use it whenever you like. It's called the FOCUS.
I'll set the flags up for the course Saturday evening. I'll pace it off and may make a map with the distances, but it is straight forward enough. First 2 rounds orange tees, second 2 rounds yellow tees. Course plays kinda like this...
Short version of 16.
Short version of 18.
Short version of 1.
Short across the creek to 3.
Short version of 2.
Plays over to 5.
1st half of hole 4 with a temp basket.
2nd half of hole 4.
Short across the creek to 9.
Short version of 10.
Short version of 11.
Across road to 15.
I think everyone will like the course. Multiple aces to win this year! We'll do 3 places also. And we can do a sidepot for cash if people want.
We'll use an inStep for the temp. If someone wants a better bucket, bring one.

will the holes actually be aceable and not 300 feet long?

Affirmative! I don't want GoPed to kick my butt! Where have you been Josh?Sandman wrote:will the holes actually be aceable and not 300 feet long?
Actually, I think I'll make a little modified Derby map, write distances on there, and make a few copies. Not that the course will be hard to follow. Just for curiousities sake. I'm not going to have time to flag it tomorrow night, so I'll go out there tonight. I'll have some replacements if some get pulled, but that is not likely.
Got 23 packs left.

I remember the only ace race design we didn't have an ace was a Sand Crab version. It was a pretty cool course though. Year of the Meteor. And nearly freezing drizzle. Bo Carrasco won it before I even knew the guy.Sandman wrote:will the holes actually be aceable and not 300 feet long?

Re: Ace Race, 9/20/09, 1pm, Derby
Well I flagged the course and did a test run with a couple of player not familiar with throwing putter upshots. It averaged 140' from the long tees and 110' from the short tees. Not short enough! The design is a bit more (less) challenging that normal because of the limitations of the disc. Great disc, but a putter is not going to do much of an "S" curve on a short technical hole.
After playing the course, I'm going to change a few holes to make them easier yet. And I'm going to get rid of a couple of the holes and change one hole. With this particular format, I found out it's a lot easier to go long into the creek than worry about a short hole crossing the creek. There were a couple of holes were it was fairly easy to go long in the creek (for baskets 9,10,11), so now we'll just play a cool cross creek shot going to 11 (after hole 4). We fished them out without too much trouble, but it's a more enjoyable experience without experiencing the creek. So this would be the course after some modifications.
1) Basket 1: 150', 100'
2) Basket 3: 120', 115'
3) Basket 2: 155', 90'
4) Basket 5: 130', 95'
5) Temp Hole: 145', 115'
6) Basket 4: 145' 105'
7) Basket 11: 120', 100'
8 ) Basket 15: 125', 100'
9) Basekt 16: 145', 120'
10) Basket 18: 140', 125'

A lot of people have told me they are coming. Not many got their packs yet, so: first come, first picks. I'll be there about 12:30pm.
Went by the course tonight on the way back from the Oaklawn clinic. Changed it up to make it shorter yet. Had to kill a couple of good holes, but it will play better now. Everyone should get at least some metal! We will see tomorrow.

Threw the discs around a bit. The D plastic is overstable like a Wizard, but stays in the air a little longer. The ESP is, unusually, the less stable of the 2. A straight flyer.
Like the Wizard, but better?!?

21 players at the Ace Race.
Seemed like everyone had a good time. Aces were plentiful. Here are the results:
1st) Loyd: 2 aces [bag+towell+5 discs]
2nd) Chad: 1 ace, 2 metal hits [banner+3 discs]
3rd) Rich: 1 ace, 1 metal hit (won playoff) [2 discs] ($8 sidepot)
Lenny: 1 ace, 1 metal hit ($8 sidepot)
Iqbal: 1 ace, 1 metal hit ($8 sidepot)
Danny Booth: 1 ace
Russ Trice: 1 ace
Ben Maass: 4 metal hits ($11 sidepot)
Ron Unruh: 4 metal hits ($11 sidepot)
Lizard: 3 metal hits
Scooba: 2 metal hits ($5 sidepot)
Plamen: 2 metal hits
Mike Junod: 2 metal hits
Buddy: 1 metal hit ($3 sidepot)
Bill Burton: 1 metal hit ($3 sidepot)
Ron Wells: 1 metal hit
Strikeouts: Mike, Rachel (was close on nearly every shot!), Taylor, Z-man.
Rick Harrison, a new player from Derby, I think, had to leave because his daughter was involved in a serious car accident. Let's hope & pray for the best for his family. Never heard her condition.
Thanks to everyone for coming. We have 5 player packs left if anyone is interested.

Rick Harrison's daughter Thea was In a wreak but is ok. She had two other passengers with her and they are also all ok. She was passing a semi hauling double trailers. She was almost past it when a car pulled into the oncoming lane ahead. she tried to drop back but another car also pulled out and tried to pass the trailers with her . so she couldn't drop back fast enough. she then dodged to the shoulder of the oncoming lane but the oncoming car also had the same idea. she still trying to drop back side swiped the trailer and then crossed back to the ditch on the other side of the road. She did every thing right under the secomestance and no tickets were givin. The pasenger side of her car is wiped out and the car will more than likely be totaled by the insurance apraiser.
Like I said, no one was hurt and the only loss is the car. All pasengers were wearing seatbelts and have the bruises to prove it.
