I drove down by the course today and there is 2 new baskets that are installed. Thery both are in 3s fairway. One is closer to the teepad and one is just on the other side of the creek down the fairway. Does anybody know where the tees are going to be for these two baskets.Schoen-hopper wrote:Derby will be an 18 hole course after enough trees are removed for the rest of the course. It is supposed to go to 11 holes soon.
It also looks like the city picked up the flags that mark the tees

Mike ran event
Derby Course
22 holes
2 new holes: #3 and #4
Moved old #3 (new #5) tee for this event. #4's basket has been moved so we will probably resume using the old tee for #5.
16 players (double the previous record)
Breezy & 2 foot tall grass. This is 4 times in a row Derby hasn't mowed for us.
Crispin & Jeff: 53 (that's -13) +3 = -10
Scooba & Deb: -6
Bill & Andy: -4
Bob & Josh: -1-3= -4
Brand new 11 hole course configuration and already a course doubles record that should stand for a while.
Lastly, the big news...
Bo Carrasco aced hole #4 for $358.
I'll double check the amount today. Sweet ace Bo!!! Bo's first ace and well deserved. Well paid too!

ok this doesnt make sence. we have a posting about a memorial event at tick ranch on saturday and a clinic at derby on the same day. Come on guys why are we spliting up the club events like this? it hard enough to get people out to things like this during the summer weekends already with all the tourneys going on around the tri state area but now two seperate events in our own back yard on the same day. I think we should put off the clinic and all go to the memorial since derby hasn't backed us up and kept the place mowed for our league events. just my two cents.

The Derby clinic has been on Derby's schedule for several months. Bill has done a lot of work out there with Derby the last week with trimming and puting signs in and such.
I'm sure Bill would rather be out at the Tick Ranch, but he committed to running this Derby clinic. By the way, neither Derby nor the Tick Ranch is a "club event".
This Derby clinic will be a chance to make a good or bad impression on Derby. This will influence how much help they give us with taking care of the course in the future. Derby has been a ton of work dating back to several years ago. The key to the course's success is Derby's involvement. We have to build this relationship and Bill is working hard at it.
If you can come out and try to show some Derbanians how to play that would be great. No alchohol this Saturday please.

Hi there -
I just wanted to pass along the official city release on the event this
Saturday.
Thanks!

Grand Re-Opening Planned for Disc Golf Course
Derby, Kansas - The City of Derby is holding a grand re-opening event
at the Disc Golf Course at Stone Creek Park on Saturday, June 21 from 11
a.m. to 2 p.m. The course is located at the corner of Patriot Ave. and
Woodlawn Blvd.
This fun, family event will include T-shirt and disc giveaways, free
food provided by the City of Derby, guided play with an instructor, and
a tour of the newly-designed course.
The Disc Golf Course currently has 10 holes, and is designed for a
future expansion to 18 holes. Through the efforts of the Derby Public
Works & Parks Department and the Air Capital Disc Golf Club (ACDGC), the
course is being designed for tournament level play. The ACDGC provided
upgraded baskets and installed them earlier this year. The Public Works
& Parks Department cleared and trimmed trees and brush to provide clear
fairways, and installed foot bridges and directional signage to assist
players. The City will provide the long term maintenance for the park.
Future upgrades to the course include concrete tees and additional
parking. Current features include a bulletin board near the first hole
that displays a course map, score cards and appropriate signage for each
hole.
To learn how to play, the Derby Recreation Center is holding a disc
golf clinic on July 8 and 10 from 9:30 to Noon for 8-18 year olds.
Participants will learn the fundamentals of the game and play practice
rounds during the clinic. Call 788-3781 to register or visit
www.derbyrec.com.
If you have any questions, please call the City’s Public Works &
Parks Department at 788-0301.

Wow, that is great. Plans for improvement are real if they are published. What was that you had sent to you Smitty? An electronic Derby newsletter?
We are going to donate 2 baskets to the DRC. Smitty, is it true you are doing the clinics on July 8 & 10 at the DRC? If so, thanks. What is that going to be all about?

I don't really know who it was intended to go to? I don't know if a ton of Derbians got the e-mail or what.
Yes I am doing a clinic. I thought that it was only going to be on the 8th, but it looks like it must be both days. When Derby Rec contacted me, I told them that Bill was the contact. She said she knew that and was looking for someone to do a clinic.
As far as clinic content, I am sure it will be mostly kids. So I am going to just give them the basics.
Disc types, and the uses
Over Stable vs. Under Stable
Backhand and Sidearm
Putting
We will probably talk and learn for about an hour then play for the next hour. I will probably take a few baskets and make the course shorter and stay away from the water holes.
