Derby Course

Post by Schoen-hopper »

Next Saturday (12/8/07), we'll be installing 9 baskets for a new design at the course in Derby.

We'll meet at 9:30 and start by 10:00. If you can make it, come on out! Bring a sharpshooter or any other tools.

We'll probably play league later in the day. We could go to Herman Hill or Mulvane.

Directions for anyone who hasn't been to the course.... Take 63rd St. S to Woodlawn. North on Woodlawn a block or so and you are there. Parking lot is on the left.

There have been a number of improvements to the park and there should be many more to come. With the improved design, this will be a great course that will get more people in the area interested in disc golf.

The baskets for this course were made by Bill Paulson and his class. They were purchased by the ACDGC.

How much different is the course going to be?

I may be there to help and check it out, depends on the weather, and life.

I can show you a map that Bill made.

There will be 9 holes now and 18 whenever Derby can get some more fairways cleared. After 18 baskets are installed and the course is being played by Derby residents, Derby has agreed to pay for tees and signs.

The course has changed a bit. It crosses the creek less, but covers more area. Woodlawn is no longer a through street and hole 9/18 uses it. The course plays on both sides of Woodlawn. 3 ponds on the course. Some of the fairways to the south have already been cleared out a lot. More visibility and less traffic means no vandalism problems since 6 baskets were reinstalled many months ago.

yeh Sandy and I went out and looked at it a couple weeks ago. The area seems to be alot more cleared out and kept up . Also i like the amount of mature trees we can use to add difficulty to some of the fairways. Are we going to need any thing besides gloves ? I have the truck tomorrow also so we can use that it needed . Its four wheel drive if we need to drag dead wood or any thing.

I said installing baskets. I meant sleeves. The baskets will go in after the concrete has set.

We might be taking out some baskets. Maybe not, I dunno. They are the club's, but I'm not sure where we'll put them or what we'll do with them.

Bill sent me an email. He said we'll be rescheduling the sleeve installation until Saturday, the 22nd. Reason being the weather this weekend.

I'm not that enthused about running league tomorrow in freezing drizzle. I may go into work.

Haven't heard anything from Bill. We're supposed to get a blizzard tomorrow, so I would assume this will be postponed to a later date.

I just saw the weather forecast for next Saturday (Jan 5th) and it looks very positive with warm weather all week to melt the snow and warm temps on Sat. with it possibbly not freezing that night. I think it is a go for Sat. Spread the word.

We can probably do league at Mulvane afterwards. HH if everyone prefers.

I'll be there. I vote Mulvane afterwards. Should I bring some munchies or drinks for everyone?

I'm guessing Mulvane will win the popular vote. Hard to say what time though. Maybe 2:00pm? We might be pulling some baskets after we install sleeves. If we don't, I'd expect we'd get done sooner. I'm guessing that were not doing any tree chopping just yet.

Got any details on this, Bill? I was going to bring a hand spade and a metal rod for mixing as well as a level and maybe some gloves. You say bring a sharp-shooter? Anything else? Maybe I could go by the clubhouse and get what we have there.

The course installation was a success!

Thanks to everyone who helped, especially Bill and Mike Paulson and Marcus Anderson. Thanks also to Robin and Miranda for bringing all the great snacks.

We put in 8 new sleeves and chose to reuse the existing sleeve on hole 1. We removed all the old baskets except one we decided to leave as a practice basket. The course has flags for tees and was measured at 3300'! There are about 5 of 9 holes where getting a 2 is a definite option. Hole 3 is a big dog leg hole. Hole 9 is a 640' tunnel shot!

We're going to give this course a first run next Sunday.
