Peter Pan Doubles

Post by Rusco »

This evening we played a $2 doubles round at Peter Pan and had an awesome turnout! I sent out a few text messages around noon today and 17 players players later, we had the largest organized group of players in Emporia on a week day that I have seen in quite a while! Thanks to everyone for helping to spread the word with such short notice. Everyone seemed to have an awesome time and it sounds like we will continue to have $2 doubles on Wednesday or Thursday every week.

Scores for 2/19/2009 (17 players=$34)

Jake Newell & Jeremy Rusco: 43 ($12)
Eric McCabe & Matt Pierce: 44 ($10)
Travis Ison & Matt Watt: 47 ($8)
Matt Wallace & Alex Gonzalez: 48 ($6)
Zac Young & Brett Henry: 49($4)
Stevie B & Remington: 51
Cameron Babb & Joe: 55
Joel Winter (cali): 58
Stevo & Sarah: 58 ($2)

17 players made for a $34 payout. Newell and Rusco donated the winnings to pay back to "first out of cash" and LAST PLACE! After an intense CTP playoff Stevo & Sarah took home the big winnings for last place! Just enough for one lap dance at Club Orlean's!

I think overall everyone had a great time. I see this being a growing event in Emporia and drawing 15-30 players every time. Tonight I can name quite a few players who were not able to make it and once this gets established I think everyone who plays golf in Emporia will want to be a part in. It was fun and at a minimal cost which I feel like is part of the recipe for success of a doubles league. It was great to see 17 players get together, compete for a couple bucks, have fun on the course, and drink a couple beers!

There will be a lot of changes take place to the Peter Pan weekly doubles over the next couple weeks or months but I would like to start a rolling ace pot. My thoughts behind this would be that if 20 players got in the $1 ace pot and an ace was not hit, $10 would go towards payout and $10 would go towards the rolling ace.

I like how we paid out 'first out of cash' and last place tonight! It was pretty cool to see the tie for last place have to play off for the cash! I feel like it kept everyone happy and hopefully keeps everyone coming back for the next one. I really like the idea of paying out more than the top places. It was not mentioned that last place would get paid out tonight.

I really like the idea of paying out a team that is over par. Tonight my cousin Stevo and Wallace's GF Sarah got paired up. This pair would have a tough time shooting under par and I feel like there should be chance for them to still 'win'. I think rolling the die and using the number rolled as the 'magic' number is a great idea. Say a 3 is rolled....three over par, or 57 would be the magic number that would get paid out on the evening. The only person that would know what the 'magic' number would be someone who would 'never' shoot over par in doubles. All these details will be worked out over the next few weeks but next time there are 10 teams. We would pay out the top three teams and then the fourth team would be the 'magic' team that shoots over par. The 'magic' team will get the 'magic' payout! This 'magic' payout is a rolling payout! If nobody shoots the magic over par after a couple weeks then the pot will be pretty big! Once someone wins this it will be awesome! Basically it keeps everyone 'in the hunt'. This 'magic' number could also be a number under par????? suggestions? Most fun could also win the pot???

I really feel like we can have something new and exciting going here! My cousin, Stevo, who only recently got back in to throwing the disc, said that he would love to have Thursday off work so that he could make it a party evening/night! I think this is exactly what we need! This is coming from a 'new' player who got paired up with a girl on his first night of pay to play doubles! I'm not bashing being pair up with a girl but I am saying that it is hard to compete with players like Eric McCabe and Jake Newell on the course when it usually takes two solid am's to match one of their shots! In the grand scheme of things, this means that with a $2 entry, everyone is just looking to have fun, drink a few beers, and maybe even win a few bucks, oh, and improve your competitive play.

We'll see what happens in the weeks to come but I really feel like Emporia could be on the up and up with a fun and competitive doubles league! Any suggestions to help improve this would be greatly appreciated. The Thursday before the Monkey Island Open (March 12th) will be set up with 21 holes and exactly like the tournament will be played.

Thanks again for everyone for coming out and playing tonight! Lets make next week 20+.

Reverse payout?

Draw cards for cashing places? You draw a 5 and 5th gets first money.

we had a casual round of dubs tonight at the Pan. 2 groups tied with a blistering 12 under par.........and got rolled by four strokes! E-mac cali styled us. Only missed holes 4 and 9. Put an ace run on 15....wow. that was some of the best golf i have ever seen
