Played a game where you got 2 points for a birdie and lost a point for a bogey. Threw in points for ctp's on a few holes. Gave points for every par after 12 in a row or better. 3 points for longest put of the round. Hitting metal on a drive was worth 3 points with an ace worth 10. I know there were some more points in there somewhere...

I been talking about speed golf for a while, but never played it until today. I realize that I'm in the worst shape of my life, so if this is what I gotta do to get myself to exercise, so be it.
Herman Hill: short tees to short pins. First round I started cold and athsmatic. I was more limping than I was jogging. I lost (and found) my disc 3 times during the round. Completed the round in 28:10. I subtracted 1:30 for my -3 score (30 sec per stroke).
I played a second round, but I was wearing down. Finished even par in 26:10.If I keep playing, I think I could get this down to 15 min. If I really get serious, maybe I'll toss out the bag and play with 3 discs!
I like the adding/subtracting time for the score. The score you choose should be for adding/subtracting time should be a little easier than your average. Even par happens to be an easily reachable goal for me in these conditions. Another way to calculate your score would be to set a goal time and take off/add strokes for every 30 secs. you beat or lose to your time. That way you end up with a golf score instead of a time.
Another benefit other than the fun and the exercise is what this can do for your game. When I'm not thinking about everything that can go wrong with my shot, the shot is a lot easier to make. Espescially true for putting.

It is funny. The fact that 97% of Americans are in poor physical condition may not be though. Disc golfers might fare a little better. Maybe not.

21:55
Shot 4 under par. At 30 secs. a stroke that would be 19:55. Seems like a stroke should be worth more time to keep me "running" at the long putts.
At one point in this round I played 4 holes in 8 total strokes in like 2 minutes. That's blazin a birdie trail!
Helps when the putt is working. I've gone to a putt that has more hyzer and more spin and less speed. Seems to be working better.
I played with only 4 discs. X Soft Challenger, Z MRV, Pro Wraith, & Z Predator. Discraft seems well represented in my top 4. If I could add two discs, it would be a Pro Rhyno and a Champion Sidewinder.
Look for me on the speed golf Olympic team. And watch out, I'm playing through.

Sounds like they played "Binga Banga Bunga" after the canyon event in Winfield. How did you resolve the point for best score in case of ties?
Schoen-hopper wrote:I read an article in Disc Golf World that mentioned a game called "The Works." The game is so crazy, you guys would think I made it up. Espescially since the game I mentioned before and the next one are similar to it.
Anyways, in "The Works", there are several categories for which money can be won. It is a singles format. The categorties are gross score, dots (different number of dots for aces, metal hits off the drive, metal hits on birdie putts), clots (CTP's), FIB's (First In Basket, or longest putt), skins, and membership (last person to bogey get this). There are a few other bonuses in there.
The game I was thinking of plays much simpler. It is derived from a ball golf game called "Binga, Banga, Bunga." How do you like that title? It is played with 3 points for every hole. 1st point is for CTP. 2nd point is first in basket or longest putt. 3rd point is lowest score for the hole.
The point for CTP is cool, but favors long drivers on longer courses. The second point is alright because it helps balance out the first point (same player usually doesn't get both). The third point seems the like the most important point. Golf boils down to best score right?
What happens if the 2 or more players tie for best score on that hole? You don't just want to dissolve the point. Pushes might also be bad in that one person could end up winning all 18 points and that probably doesn't accurately reflect how well that player shot throughout the entire round. I'd suggest something that would seem to solve this problem: Push the hole only between those that tied for the best score.
For example: if 3 out of 5 players tie for the best score on hole 1, those players push the best score point. One player bogies on hole 2 and another bogeys on hole 3. The 3rd player who didn't bogey would receive the point for hole 1. Hole 2 would be resolved in the same way independently of the push that's going on for hole 1. Interesting, eh?
This game is lots of fun. You could play $.50 a point and settle the difference in points at the end of the round. Ok, you got me, I've never got anyone to play this game.
We didn't keep score.
If we thought that someone missed on purpose to have a chance at the longest made shot, we called Shinanigans on them.
It worked pretty well. Poor Bud never had a break. If he had a good shot, someone would make a freak shot. If he had a 40 footer for longest made, someone would jam it in from longer.
I picked up a couple of longest made from 10 feet. Just luck I guess.

not a specific game, but in St Louis at JB, they do a different format every week during the winter, Sundays at noon or 1230 or somewhere in there.
I don't remember all the options, but regular singles, regular best doubles, worst doubles, alternate best/worst doubles, match play singles/doubles (9 hole matches, double elim) 1 disc, 3 disc, and a few others.
That sounds like a cool way to keep things fresh and challenging.
