Fun Formats

Two formats I haven't tried that I would like to....
Switch doubles.... pro-am draw. Players "switch" shots after the drive and individually complete the hole. Best score for the hole between the two players on each team. (Could play total combined score). I think this one would be loads of fun for everyone.
Pro best score doubles. Teams formed by seeding. Individual best score for the hole.
Let's get some more ideas. What are some others? When are we going to play switch doubles?

what about phone free golf? that would be a format I have not played in a while. I remember it well, we used to get in groups of 3-6 and play casual rounds of disc golf, and no one used the phone the entire time, I miss that format, seems like even the last few tournaments I have played someone was seen or heard on the phone.

Got another one for you....
Pro-Am Match Play Doubles.
If you are playing with a couple of ams and a couple of pros and want to try something different, give this one a go.
Flip for teams or put the weakest am with the strongest pro.
Ams will be playing match play against each other. Pros will be doing the same.
The only difference is that you are playing on a team. Let's say you are 2 strokes down with only 1 hole to play. I regular match play, the game would be over. In team match play though, each hole is worth 2 potential points. One point for the ams and one point for the pros. You would have to be 3 back with 1 to play or 5 back with 2 to play for an early victory. This gives the game a little more life.
Sounds like fun?? If you had several groups, I could see playing a short course several times in an elimination style tournament.

My friends and I will play BEER GOLF occasionally. I cannot claim inventing these rules (thank you Kasper), but I will at least share it.
Best played with 4 people. Everyone goes in on one or two 12-packs of beer, preferably PBR and preferably two packs. Rules as follows:
1) Played as individual skins.
2) Whoever is winning, carries the beer. Whoever gets the beer out of the car w/o thinking carries it first and until someone gets a skin (Usually carry overs occur at the beginning of the match so this is a critical rule)
3) Drink as much and as often as you like.
4) Everyone gets one defense. A defense is the ability to swat an opponent's putt ONLY with your hand. A miss or contact with the disc with any other part of the body is considedered a strike. After two strikes, the person loses the defense. And try not to damage your buddy's disc.
5) Blocking an opponent's drive off the teepad is always allowed. This is usually accomplished by throwing your body in front of the drive like blocking a field goal. As of yet, no one as utilized this rule. I suggest covering your head and other "sensitive areas" if attempting this.
6) Winner of the game gets the beer leftover from the round.
Quite a bit of strategy takes place with the defense rule. And the drinking. If someone appears to be running away with the game, it causes everyone else to down as many beers as possible before the final hole. And playing this game before your friend's bachelor party is a great transition into said event.

Here's a simple idea for a doubles format. It would work great at Herman Hill with the baskets short and playing red or blue tees, which both alternate short and long.
Play best shot on every other hole on the holes that tee from the long tee.
Play best shot from the WORST drive on the holes that tee from the short tee.
Is this the WORST idea ever?
