Mike ran event
Derby Course
22 holes

2 new holes: #3 and #4
Moved old #3 (new #5) tee for this event. #4's basket has been moved so we will probably resume using the old tee for #5.

16 players (double the previous record)
Breezy & 2 foot tall grass. This is 4 times in a row Derby hasn't mowed for us.

Crispin & Jeff: 53 (that's -13) +3 = -10
Scooba & Deb: -6
Bill & Andy: -4
Bob & Josh: -1-3= -4

Brand new 11 hole course configuration and already a course doubles record that should stand for a while.

Lastly, the big news...

Bo Carrasco aced hole #4 for $358.

I'll double check the amount today. Sweet ace Bo!!! Bo's first ace and well deserved. Well paid too!

That tall grass sucked . Looking for your disc on holes in tall grass and not finding it untill your two feet from it when if the grass would have been mowed we would have seen them from yards away. It really slowed down the play On several holes. I would love to get a bunch of league people together with mowers and weed wackers and show the derby parks department how the place should look all the time.

Also mike Two away and i also had a -1 + -3 = -4

Bo way to go on that ace. Glad you got it.

You guys were -1. Pro-am teams get no strokes.

Pro-pro teams get 3 added at the end.
Am-am teams gets 3 subtracted at the end.

Short tees tonight and 2nd easiest pin config.

Might mix it up with some 2/3 handicap dubs or switch dubs. If there are a few people without handicaps or new to league we may not do this.

Well we DID mix it up!

7/3/08
Oak Park
Red Tees

17 players
70 something degrees and not too windy.

I tried out handicapped doubles for the first time. I asked everyone if they wanted to do a random draw with a cash payout or do a pro/am split. We did random draw.

Here is how the handi's worked. We added each players handicap on the team and then divided by 3 and rounded. For the cali, we just doubled the handicap and then divided by 3.

There was some grumbling, but it came out amazingly close. The system equates to 2/3 of the handicap that is already calculated at 80%. So this was actually like only using 53% handicap, which would certainly advantage the pros. I knew though, that playing doubles instead of singles, would compress the scores. I also knew that playing the red course in particular would compress the scores further as there are less birdie and bogey opportunities than on the blue course. Using red or blue also makes more sense for this format because that is an "average" course that the handicaps would be the most accurate for.

Ben Wiggins (6) won on his birthday!
Josh Luinstra (8 )
14 / 3 = 5
-6 - 5 = -11

Bo Carrasco (6)
Josh Skladzien (6)
12 / 3 = 4
-6 - 4 = -10

Buddy Kassner (7)
Andy Horning (10)
17 / 3 = 6
-3 - 6 = -9

Bob Decker (7)
Don Zimmerman (10)
17 / 3 = 6
-3 - 6 = -9

Ben Maass (2)
Lloyd Majors (7)
9 / 3 = 3
-6 - 3 = -9

Jeff Ring (4)
Jacob Clark (15)
19 / 3 = 6
-2 - 6 = -8

Mike Schoenhofer (6)
Russ Horning (6)
12 / 3 = 4
-3 - 4 = -7

Crispin Carrasco (E)
Shane Crisler (7)
7 / 3 = 2
-5 - 2 = -7

Peter Mohr & Cali (11)
11 x 2 = 22
22 / 3 = 7
Was 11 under with the handicap for the first 9, but never found out the final score.

I think this is a fun change that made it even more fair than how we usually do it. The only kind of team I could see having an advantage is a scratch golfer with a high handicapper. I was going to max the handicap at 21 just for this purpose. We should probably just use this format for red tees.

I've got a different NEW idea for doubles on red tees at Herman Hill on Tuesday. Should be fun. We may not do it if the playing field doesn't look right though.

Mike ran it.
HH Park.
Red Tees.

10 players showed up to get themselves soggy in the nearly constant rain that fell. I decided not to pull any funky formats on everyone.

Squash Luinstra (yucca) & Don Z-man: -1 - 3 = -4
Crispin & Bob: -2

DimpleDisc51 wrote:i might just have time for both.............. what time tonight? entry fee? whats the beverage of choice?

We try to start by 6 but we usually end up starting by about 6:15. If possible show up around 5:45 so you can get to know some people.

Entry depends....if you are an Am you can just set your handicap for free or you can talk to mike (about getting strokes) if you would like to play for the Amatuer Bob Bucks or if you are a pro you can just play straight up with no strokes. Either way its 5 to play.

Beverage of choice is up to you.

Natty Light!

Unless you need to buy a disc, I'd just play pro for cash. It's not like we are any good anyway. Espescially Crispin. That guy stinks and he won't give me back my scraper.
