Yea, it was back on Wednesday. I thought I'd posted a note but I must have done it wrong, b/c it didn't show up.

I have talked to the Superintendent of Derby Parks and they are going to bring several loads of wood chips to the course that we can spread around the tees, baskets, and a couple of the paths to try to deal with the mud around the course. I will be working on this as I have time the next couple of weeks - I have a large wheelbarrow that I can use to carry the chips around from the drop off sites. If anyone wnats to help, let me know here.

A couple of the bridges washed out also from the last rain. It is their intention to repair, lengthen or whatever to fix this problem once the ground gets firm enough to get equipment on it. They are also going to move the bridge on 9's fairway to a better spot. They talked to me about wood chips but are planning to overseed the entire park again this year and hope we have rain and cooler temps so it will grow. There is also another bulletin board coming with a huge map of the entire course. I have gone out and measured distances for all of the holes as the tee signs need updateing, 10 has always been 100 feet too long, we moved 14, 1, 6 & 7 and the others were measured before the tee pads were put in so are off by a few feet. They too plan on updating this info but are using GPS to make their calculations.

I'm planning on making a run to Derby to check out the course there. I'm assuming that it is the location off of Woodlawn and Patriot Ave.? Is the course well marked or is there any map available of the course? Needing to play some other courses. So far have mainly played the Cherry St. course in Winfield.

You shouldn't have any problems...we played it today. The hole numbers are big yellow signs. Sometimes it is tough to distinguish which basket to throw to until you've played once or twice. When you get to 9, just know it is straight ahead, across the creek a couple of times and through all the trees.

Thanks Doug. We managed to get there about 4:20 this afternoon. We were still able to get through 11 holes before we ran out of light. As for hole 9, there was another guy who started about the time we did and he told/warned us about the 9th hole. Seems like a pretty nice course with plenty of natural hazards.

You've got to go back and play the rest...the last 4 holes are the way a course should be set up. they are game changing holes and 18 is a great finishing hole. You won't be disappointed!

The City crews delivered three loads of chips last week. ( I was in KC and didn't have a chance to check it out until yesterday ) I got one load (Probably the smallest) spread around the practice basket, #1 tee, #12 tee, #11 basket , #1 basket. There is the beginning of a path from #1 basket to #2 tee. It is pretty rough "chips" (from shreds to small logs), but I think as people walk on it it will get packed in and improve the footing the next time it rains. Derby clay gets really slimey when wet, so I hope this will help. I will plan to work on the pile by #18 tee Saturday morning - probably around 11:00. I'll spread it around the muddy spots on #'s 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6. Anyone who has a wheelbarrow and pitchfork and would like to help, come on out Saturday!

I lost a proto star destroyer on hole 17 last week, light blue with red stamp, would GREATLY appreciate its return, it does NOT have my name on it but it marked on the underside with sharpie of an ace. I will trade back for it with a disc of your choice in my box of spares (there are some discs of value in there).

It went in on the north side in the murky water by the drain and tree on the corner nearest the basket.

Got most Of the wood chips spread around Saturday. If you play in the next couple of weeks. let me know if you think it is an improvement. The city will probably deliver more if we think we could use it.

Playing Friday evening (Derby, I was finishing out hole 9 and heading up to the parking lot to refresh my drink.Heard some guys yelling from the south, so I looked up and stopped........... Because there were 3 dear heading my way, running as fast as they could heading north.. Two went on one side of me, and the male w/horns..I think about an 8 point was about 30 feet from me.. He jumped and cleared the ditch that runs east and west from the parking lot to hole 11, he was so close I could hear him grunt from his landing. Pretty fricken cool!!! I refreshed my drink and went to the bathroom, and not necessarily in that order. who ever it was that yelled, thanks for the heads up... 8)

That was I who yelled DEER!!! I was on hole 12 just on the other side of the drainage ditch about to throw my up shot when a big ass buck comes flying over the road and landing just feet in front of me. Thank the Discs gods because he seen me at the last minute and made a decision to jump the other way and not in my lap!!!! The buck was heading right for me!!!! As he flew by about 4 more followed...CRAZY!! Then about 2 minutes later 2 little dogs come running through hot on the deer trail!! Great mother nature sightings!!!

Forget who I was golfing with? We were playing the old college course in Winfield. We had just thrown a drive on Hole 9 (alt tee) and a deer ran across the fairway (tunnel shot), the disc wizzzed just over the things back. It was awesome.
