Discin in Ecuador

Post by buymyporno »

I know some of you that posts on this site and have met a lot of you. I just wanted to say hi to all the I have DGed with and those that I didn´t have the pleasure to DG with. Some of you knew about my wish of using the most diverse and beautiful land in the world to set up a course on. I am just giving a couple of details in my journey so far in doing this.

I have set up some little 6 holers here using my only basket and 6 different tee boxes. I brought out some people that I know here, and have had interested onlookers even try out the game. Everyone seems to like chucking these plastic lids(disco is the español word for it) here so far. I have already traveled 2 hours outside quito to a tourist town by the name of los baños(in english it means the bathrooms), and toured this area around and up a volcanoe via ATV. I did find some superb holes(even an area with a 30meter/90´ waterfall), but I have not found the area where I plan on a course that is as tough as oak, but with the elevation changes of Blue Valley and Waterworks.

A city bigger than quito by the name of guayaquil has many public parks and also is near the beach, man. This way I can find many people inside a public park with an unknowing disc golf treasure of a course. Even though it is a ten hour drive from quito(where I live now). I plan on making it to survey the area and see if they have what takes to make a great course. So until then I will play my 6 holer in parque de la carolina(carolina park).

I still have a lil newbie in me at this sport, but I am none the less in love with it. ¿¿¿If anyone has a favorite hole(s) of any course that would like to let me know??? Also if you know links to photos of the hole/course. With this, I would be able to get satisfy the most picky of disc golfers, because I can implement that information in searching and designing a course that is worth the use of this great countries land.

I hope everyone in ict is doing well. I miss playing oak like a junkie without a needle. KYLE ROWDEN

With that name, at first I thought you were Nick Myers. :o Are you the guy who let me borrow your truck for spreading wood chips at Oak Park?

How the helk did you get to Ecuador? However it may be, it's cool you are trying to design a course there. Very true that the land there could inspire one of the greatest courses on the planet.

From what I know, Ecuador is mostly jungle, but with a mountainous area. I suppose the whole country contains land that has dramatic elevation. Is the area up in the mountain have less dense vegetation? Trees are great, but jungle would be impossible to work with unless you had a tall canopy you could throw under. What is it like in Quito? That is where you are, right?

As far as golf course design.... variety is key. Holes that offer use of different shots, different routes to the pin, different scoring possibilities, different lengths, different elevation, different wind, different vegetation densities, different flora.... Simply put, two of the most important aspects of a course are the risk/reward strategical aspect, and the natural beauty. From what I know of Ecuador, you should have no problem finding the later.

Let me know if you ever get something permanent planned or installed. I know a kid who lives there.

Quito is a vally surrounded by mountains and volcanoes. Its 70 degree throughout the year during the day, but to cold for night golf. It is heavily vegitated, and to maintaining it would be pricey for one man after to take care of a huge section of land. I have found great spots, but I need a public park for the maintances and so that people might be interested in playing a game. KYLe. And yeah, I am the one with the truck. It was worth it, oak looked great.

Hey 2, I read your profile and I am not quite sure who you are. Well yeah and about moving, it wasn´t a quick thing, but at the same time it wasn´t totally planned out either. I just bought a ticket and then told my employers I would not transfer to rockford illinois like they wanted me to. well let me know who you are and hit me back up. And if you know John from snapback (all disc golfers should go and support John and Andy by watching SNAPBACK shows)tell him that I am waiting on my copy of his new album, and I wish I could have gone to the cd release party. tell him to email it to me kylerowden@yahoo.com. Later numero 2

Yeah well ecuadorian girls are my flavor. I have gone on another search for a disc golf course. I went to the beach town of acetames in esmeraldas. It was cool, but I spent most of the time boozin and getting food poisoning. I just didn´t have any nice maintained area. It was either sand or high brush and other foilage. Speaking of foilage, the foilage is here is great and cheap. I did find a suitable area for 18 and maybe 27 if need be. I have a connection who is an engineer of roads and highways that has designed many if not most of ecuadors highways. He is getting me aerial photos of parque de metropolitania, and has offered his full support and legal guidance in this procedure. I got some tourist agents I know here into the game, and have made a bad @ss hole at thier apartment grounds. If ya lose your disc in this nasty empty but muddy creek, you can pay one of the neighbor kids 25 cents to catch diseases so you don´t have to. l8r masterb8rs

Hey everyone I know and don´t know

I am stuck in an internet cafe right now, and I don´t get to talk english that much anymore nor disc golf. I figure this forum can take care of 2 of many things that I miss. I have had a couple of ventures with discin since my last journal. I traveled a couple of weeks ago to a resort town by the name of Casablanca. It is unreal with the landscape they offer. Suprizingly there was a golf course(rare here in ecuador) But the club house must have been on a siesta or something, because I was unable to play the expensive 9 holer. I do want to get in contact with them for another vacation to see if there would be any problems with setting up baskets on the greens for a day. The place offers hilly landscape with palm trees that need disc nicks in them. Also the sun sets on the ocean within view of the course. The spanish style stucko resort houses reminds me of a columbian druglords house that you would see in a movie. They are cheap at only 150 bucks a night. This size of rental house in florida cost me over 500 a night. I just wish that all this was closer than 6 hours away from my house in quito.

I have been offered a well paid job with an oil company here that will relocate me into the jungle de amazonia. I havn´t said ya or na yet, but I know that it would provide me a better income to single handedly take care of a course, and also an unique environment(similar to the difficulty of Downunder in KC) to have one. I just don´t like the fact that I am a gringo working for an oil company.(many ecuadorians get kidnapped, imagine the worth of blonde hair and blue eyes with a connection to the TLC(research TLC and you will understand why latinos don´t like it)
Every wall in quito has grafiti saying To kill Latin Countries.

Harvey was right when he told me in salina that disc golf is a spiritual game. Here no one has preconcived notions of what disc golf is and are instantly addicted with a grin on thier face. Unlike in the states where at least in wichita the two parks are known more for the activity that happened decades ago. I use disc golf to clear my mind of all the headaches of work and life. My friends and I here are all addicted, just wish there was a spot that required little to no maintenance for a disc golf course. Well that is it for my rambling, thanks to the creators for this forum I needed it today. Well chao to everyone.

PS. Scoob tell bo that I have a written post card for him, but I somehow somewhere lost his address. I need it once more, please do me this favor. KYLe :D
