Looks like Crispin was one of the only ams to shoot in the 60's at Blue Valley. Finished a stroke behind Ben for 6th & 7th place finishes.

Iqbal smoked his last round at the WW.

I think it is stupid that Robinson won the stupid thing! Look at his player stats.

I noticed that too. It seemed rather odd that he was playing advanced when everything else that he's played in this year was Open.

He also should win another Title:

"Worst Bagger of All Time"

On another point, nothing against Ben, but I don't think that 970 rated players should be able to play Advanced. The rules say <970, or less than 970 rated players. The rules don't say "less than or equal to" <970.

Literally I would think that means 969 rated and below can play advanced.

*edit

This is the information from which I based my opinion, taken from the 08TourStandards:

“Pros Playing Am” : Pros rated <970 may now compete in Amateur divisions offered at PDGA
Tour A B and C tier events, for which they qualify based on player rating, age, and gender:

Pro Men and Women
<970 can play Advanced
This may not be the actual stipulations though.

I guess if you never went Pro, this may not matter.

I'm pretty sure that if you haven't accepted cash, you can play advanced no matter how high your player rating is.

I agree. And it bugs me even more that he beat Justin Starks with a round at BV that would have beaten more than 3/4ths of the Open division. This was only Justin's third tourney ever. He's been a casual player at WyCo for a couple of years then this season started playing tourneys and leagues in KC. A win for him would have been awesome. But his 2nd place is still pretty amazing. Robinson has played dozens of tourneys as an Open player since 2006. That ain't right man.....

If you look at Robinson's tourneys he has actually accepted cash this year from the Glass Blown tourney. Is this a complaint to be taken to Bob or Ron for rules clarification?

I don't know why he would want to play Advanced again? He had nothing to gain and tons to lose.

If he doesn't win, he is the Open player who didn't win advanced at the WO
When he does win, he is the biggest bagger in the history of the WO

I knew he would win if he was less then 5 strokes back going into the last round. The dude can probably hit 500 on drives, and that helps at BV.

I agree that letting pros < 970 play am is not cool. <955 was more appropriate. I think all the switches in divisions has created a problem. Some players stay in the same division because they feel guilty about moving down. Others move down who shouldn't, but can you really blame them for taking advantage of a PDGA decision?

In Ben Maass's defense, he didn't play the Doo Dah because he knew he would win advanced and wouldn't accept cash in pro. He hasn't accepted cash yet, so he could play am no matter what his rating is. I know he was classified as pro, but this year it is am for him. I'll bet he'll move up before long.

I think Ben is fine playing Am at big PDGA events. Robinson on the other hand, GET REAL!

Historically, There is always one super bagger that plays the KCWO and wins by 6 or 7 strokes.

And I'm not entirely condoning Mike playing advanced at the KCWO, but it is fair his side gets defended also.

It was national tour event. His rating wasn't even the highest of the field. I can name 5 people that could have/should have beat him this past weekend. And to complain about someone who is rated 20, maybe 30 points higher than you doesn't make anymore sense telling him he needs to move up, pay 60 more dollars, so he can play against people that are rated 60 - 70 points higher than him.

Playing an NT 3 hours from home, paying for a room, gas, and one of the highest entry fees of the year sounds like a plan for bankruptcy when you are rated 966.
I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.

I played with Mike Robinson 2 years ago at the Wide Open in advanced. I think he only played one other Am tourney that year and that was Bowling Green WAYYY earlier in the year. He had accepted cash and I believe won an Open event before the Wide Open. What a D-BAG!!!

kcWOW!

Post by crispinthomascarrasco »

the kcwo was awesome...F-ing AWESOME!!!My brother and I were blown away every second of our trip(not referring to the ridiculous wind) The courses were unlike anything I had ever seen. If the courses in Iowa are like playing in heaven then waterworks and BV are where you would go if you somehow died again IN heaven and you got sent up to some other more exclusive higher level above heaven...thats what it was like for three days and then you get thrown down back to earth with a 3 hour drive and work the next morning.Once again I got to play golf and make some new friends with some really cool people. A few that I had a great time on and off the course with included: My brother Bo, Streit(the best dude to have a conversation with about Wizards and Warlocks) Justin Starks, Kevin Rarick, Nils, Odie, Anthony Newberry, Justin Gentry, Kevin Tulp, Nick Altieri, Forest Haag and RUSCO for sure(hooked up a super nice towel and chair for me and sweet DD stickers to cover Wichita with...thanks bro) Got give a huge thank you to Jack Lowe and crew for running a killer event and hooking us up with "HOUSE" who let us crash at his cool-a## crib and being an all around awesome host for our first trip to KC. Willis and Maas stayed there too and it's always a fun time in their presence. Even Iqbal was a cool contributor to the trip by taking us to a casino and a relaxed scenic drive through some of KC's finer ghettos. Finally, to see the pros play sunday was just as cool as playing. Getting to watch E-mac, Rico, Babbit, Hemmeline, Leiviska, Schultz and many more was another inspiring moment in terms of progressing ones game to get to the level these guys are at...freaking amazing skills these guys have. The way the tourney was layed out gave the ams a chance to see alot of great playing from the open division. Thank you Kansas City Flying Disc Club!

You're Welcome!

Post by Nivek9 »

Speaking for the KCFDC let me say- You're most welcome!

I for one am really happy to hear such great feedback about the event. I got the same feeling this weekend that the vibe was right and people were enjoying it immensely. From my behind the scenes vantage point at the merchandise table I felt the love, so to speak, lots of smiles good moods and handshakes. The wind was a factor but no storms, no rain.. woo-hoo!

Next year look for a very scaled back KCWO but some new courses and fresh energy at the 2009 Pro/Am Worlds!
