Brutal Big Hill Disc Golf Doubles - Aug. 14th
Brutal Big Hill Disc Golf Doubles - Aug. 14th
There will be a bring your own partner doubles event at Big Hill Lake on Aug. 14th. The event will take place at the Overlook area near Cherryvale. Registration will be at Overlook Shelter #2. We are putting together 2 separate 7 hole courses for this event. The lack of holes is made up for in distance. I think we figured up over 8,000ft total. We've got one hole coming off the top of Big Hill Dam that's well over a 1,000 and another long one driving off the top of a bluff (watch your step getting down). One course will be played twice in the morning. We'll break for lunch (we're providing sandwiches for everyone) and then the other course will be played around twice as well. After that, we may have a CTP or some other events. We will then all meet back up at the shelter and fire up the grill for everyone (adult beverages will be in various coolers I'm sure). There's plenty of camping for those interested as well. You can actually pre-register on Friday night if you wanna make a weekend out of it. There will be Player's Packs for the first 30 people (15 teams) that sign up. They will get a custom stamped disc and mini. Tshirts and other goodies will be awarded to the winners. We will have a Men's Pro, Men's Am, Mixed, Women's and Junior's division. Must be at least 2 teams per division. I don't have the finalized flier yet, but I will get that posted with prices as soon as I get it. I know Men's Pro is $80 per team and Men's Am is $60 per team. This is a unique opportunity to play a course that no one has ever played before. We're hoping that with a good turn out, the Corp of Engineers might be more willing to put up a permanent 18 hole course out there in the near future. It's gonna be a great time so I hope some of you can make it. Hit me up with any questions you may have. Thanks.

Finally have a flyer to help clarify a little bit more about this event. We are also selling hole sponsorships to businesses in town to raise some money for the Kansas Disc Sport Scholarship Fund. This event is starting to pick up steam from our community as well. Labette County Tourism is going to provide goodie bags for everyone and try to promote the event through some media coverage. We just really feel like this is going to be a pretty cool, unique event and would love to have some out of town talent come play these courses. So please see the flyer and hit me up with any questions you may have. Thanks!

Got any pics? Sounds cool, would love to see it.

All I could show ya is a Google Map deal. We've just flagged out the course. We won't put up the baskets until the morning of. Everyone will be playing it for the first time. I'll see if I can rassle up a pic of the dam at least though...kind of give you an idea.
Re: Brutal Big Hill Disc Golf Doubles - Aug. 14th
We now have enough baskets that we are converting the courses to two separate 9 hole courses. Gonna be a hot one more than likely. I'd also suggest to anyone planning on coming to bring some kind of tick repellent. There's plenty of them out at Big Hill Lake. Just a heads up. Hope to see some of ya Friday evening or Saturday morning!

Here's a Google Map shot of the Courses:

You can't really get a sense of the elevation from these, but No.6 on Course A you are teeing off from the top of a bluff. On Course B, No.2 tee is on top of a dam. There is a path on No.4 that goes through all those tree. Still gonna be a tough 500 ft tunnel shot though. Hope this gives everyone a sense of what we're trying to do.

Nice! Does the road or across it play OB?
Re: Brutal Big Hill Disc Golf Doubles - Aug. 14th
Road will be OB. I know on some holes going across will be as well. The one playing off the bluff for sure.

Here's the newspaper article and some pictures taken by the reporter during this event. Thanks everyone who came out. It was a great time...little hot, but a great time.
